A renowned journalist and anchor, who rose to prominence for his weekend editions of “Good Morning America”, Whit Johnson is also the anchor of the Saturday edition of American Broadcasting Company’s (ABC) “World News Tonight”, and is a fill-in and substitute anchor of ABC’s “World News Tonight With David Muir“.

Career
Whit launched his career as a reporter and evening weekend anchor at National Broadcasting Company (NBC)’s affiliate in Yakima/Tri-Cities, Washington, in 2005, and then, he worked as a reporter and as an anchor on evening weekdays at NBC’s affiliate KSL-TV, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Four years later, Whit joined Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) News as a Washington DC-based network correspondent and fill-in anchor, reporting on national news, Capitol Hill, and the White House. He covered then-Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, on her tour of the Middle East, and also interviewed her about the killing of Muammar Gaddafi.
In 2013, Whit served as a morning anchor for “Today in LA” on KNBC-TV, a station based in Los Angeles, California, and covered live the shooting at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), and the standoff between killer Christopher Dorner and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), which lasted for nine hours.
In the same year, Whit earned a Los Angeles Emmy for a multipart investigation into reported scams at auto repair shops – it’s an annual award presented to an individual, company or organization making a substantial contribution to television broadcasting in the greater Los Angeles area,.

In 2018, Whit began serving as a reporter and anchor for ABC News, subsequently covering the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting in October that year, and he also covered the arrest of the suspected Golden State Killer, the story of the University of Iowa student who mysteriously vanished and was later found murdered, and the historic volcanic eruption on Hawaii’s Big Island, among other events.
During the Coronavirus pandemic since 2020, Whit has been one of the lead correspondents for ABC News, providing viewers with the vital information they needed to know. Whit and Andrea met when they were both working at NBC’s affiliate at Yakima/Tri-Cities, and soon began dating, although they kept their relationship a secret. The two married on 11 August 2007, in a private ceremony in the presence of their closest family members and friends.
Five years later, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Leah on 15 May 2012, and their second daughter they named Summer, was born on 26 July 2014.
As of August 2022, the family of four lives a seemingly happy life in their residence in New York City – the fifth member is their rescue dog, Copper. Whit often shares pictures featuring his family in various occasions on his Instagram.
