Who is Dylan Dreyer?

A meteorologist and anchor, who rose to fame working for the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) News, Dylan Marie Dreyer was born under the zodiac sign of Leo on 2 August 1981, in Manalapan Township, New Jersey USA; thus she holds American nationality although she comes from a family of German descent.

Dylan traced her family’s history back to her great-great-great-grandmother, Sabina Hugle, who came to the US in the early 1800s. With the help of Ancestry, Dylan found out that much of Sabina’s life took place not too far from where she now lives.

Early life and education

Dylan was raised in her hometown by her parents, Jim and Linda, whose occupations Dylan hasn’t revealed, and she also hasn’t spoken about having any siblings, it’s assumed that she was raised as an only child.

Dylan dreamed of becoming a TV reporter from an early age, and credits her mother for her big break as an on-air meteorologist. In one of her interviews, she said: ‘I’ll never forget when I got the call from Erie, Pennsylvania, to come out for an interview. It (was) an 8-hour drive but my mom got behind the wheel. It was my first job on TV, and I wouldn’t have gotten it if it wasn’t for my mom giving me that ride.’

Speaking of her educational background, she attended Manalapan High School, and upon matriculating in 1999, enrolled at Rutgers University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in meteorology in 2003.

Career

During her days at college, Dylan briefly interned at WeatherWorks, a private consulting company based in Hackettstown, New Jersey.

From 2003 until 2005, Dylan served as the weekend meteorologist at WICU-TW, the NBC affiliate in Erie, Pennsylvania, and then from 2005 until 2007, she was the weekend meteorologist at the NBC affiliate WJAR-TV, in Providence, Rhode Island.

In the following year, she was named Boston’s Best Meteorologist by Bostonian magazine, Improper.

From 2007 until 2012, Dylan was the weekday morning meteorologist on WHDH-TV’s show “Today”, in Boston, Massachusetts, prior to her job at NBC News.

Dylan is currently co-hosting the “Third Hour” alongside Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Sheinelle Jones, and she also serves as a weekday weather correspondent for “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt”. Her last day on “Weekend Today” was on 29 January 2022.

During her career on NBC News, Dylan has reported live from some of the worst storm areas, including the North American polar vortex in 2014, Boston’s record-breaking snowfall in 2015, and Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

Love life and husband

Dylan hasn’t been the subject of any rumors and controversies concerning both her love life and her sexual orientation – it’s widely known that she’s a married woman.

She met her future husband, Brian Fichera, while they were both working the morning shift at WHDH, starting as friends. Dylan said that he used to call her different names such as ‘D Money’ and ‘Doug Funny’, and that she’s never even been saved on his ‘phone as Dylan.

Brian Fichera is a cameraman and producer from Easton, Massachusetts, who also works for NBC, beginning a year after Dylan. The funny thing is that Dylan thought that his name was Tom, so that became their intern joke, calling each other different names.

Eventually, working shifts of long hours together, the two started dating, became engaged in July 2011, and then married in 2012. On their wedding website, Dylan said about her husband that his personality is so laid-back and pleasant, adding that he always makes people laugh and smile, and that he’s the kind of person everyone wants to be around.

On 17 December 2016, Dylan gave birth to their first child, a son they named Calvin, second son Oliver was born on 2 January 2020, and third son Russell James on 29 September 2021.

After she left “TODAY”, Dylan shared: ‘This job can get crazy especially when we’re traveling and we’re busy, but it’s so important to make time for family too. These boys are my whole life, and Brian and I, we love being a team on weekends’, adding that they enjoy spending their time with their sons and having as much fun as they can.

During her high school days, Dylan was into sports, and played softball – in 2019, she took “Today” viewers to her hometown, and reconnected with her old softball coach, who had nothing but praise for Dylan.

Dylan revealed that she was a big fan of the series “Beverly Hills, 90210”, and that her first celebrity crush was Jason Priestley, who portrayed Brandon Walsh; when she had an interview with him, she had Jason autograph her old VHS tapes.
