Why Did Lauren Scala Leave NBC? What Happened? Husband, Salary

Lauren Scala is a famed American-born news correspondent and TV reporter, who was formally nominated for an Emmy Award and has worked for several major broadcasting companies including WNBC Network; she is also famous for hosting the 30-minutes show “In The Wings.”

Age, Early Life, and Education Background

Lauren Scala was born under the Aquarius zodiac sign on 10 February 1982, in Mineola, New York State, USA, so is 40 years old as of 2022. She is the last-born child in her family, and has a brother and twin sisters. Her father, John J. Scala, served in the US Air Force and had been stationed in Vietnam – he sadly succumbed to cancer in 2007.

Her mother is reported to be an author, but she hasn’t shared her name. She grew up watching news together with her family at home, which sparked her interest in journalism at an early age.

Lauren went to Mineola High School and was physically very active; she participated in gymnastics and other sports, and was also a member of the drama club. She matriculated to Fordham University in 1999, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2003.

Interests and Hobbies

Lauren loves photography; she once revealed that she would have become a photographer if she hadn’t pursued a journalism career.

Her best-loved season is winter, as she’s very good at snowboarding and skiing.

She is fond of dogs, and owns a Maltese canine named Lola.

The New York-born TV reporter loves cooking, and often shares her ideas and unique recipes with her fans on Instagram and Twitter.

Scala is a big fan of blues and jazz music; her favorite artists are the late Nina Simone and Frank Sinatra.

She is also a fan of films and TV series, and her favorite entertainers are Richard Gere and Penelope Cruz while her most enjoyed productions are the sci-fi action “Ghost in the Shell,” which is adapted from a same-titled Japanese animated film, and the “Harry Potter” film series.

Before she began her journalism career, Lauren worked at DreamWorks Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as an associate producer and event planner in 2005. In 2008, she was hired by Time Out Group to work as an associate producer of the show “On Demand”, then in April 2009, she was taken on by NYC TV to host the 52nd New York Emmy Awards, and was later invited to host the entertainment show “City Scoop” by NYC TV. She worked until 2010, then soon after quitting, she became a New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT) member.

In 2010, Lauren was hired by NBCUniversal, Inc. and the decade that followed saw her landing several jobs for the broadcasting network, including working as a traffic reporter on the show “Today in NY”, plus hosting the lifestyle and food segment of the TV program “New York Live.” She also hosted the shows “City Guide,” “Taxi TV,” “Nonstop Sound,” “The Great American Health Challenge,” and several more. She later left NBC to work for cable TV network Epix satellite, as their East Coast Entertainment Correspondent.

Why Scala Left NBC

Many fans expressed their disappointment when Scala took to Twitter announcing that she was leaving NBC in pursuit of ‘greener pastures.’

She hosted the show “Today in New York” for the last time on 3 December 2021. After she left, the vice president of NBC News, Amy Morris, wrote on social media handles that, ‘To say Lauren is dedicated and a hard worker is an understatement. Some days she never stopped — like the time there was a crash near the Lincoln Tunnel after her shift was over, and she sent video and did play-by-play from her apartment window.’ She added that Scala was so dedicated to her job that she preferred going to the studio to working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, she will still be contributing to NBC and WNBC, especially to the “New York Live” show.

Social Media Presence

Scala is active on several social media platforms; she uses her Instagram account -@laurenscala- to share blogs and post pictures, and is followed by around 45,000 fans. She has nearly 25,000 Facebook followers, since she opened her official Twitter account in late 2008; she now has about 22,000 followers, and uses the latter to encourage and motivate people – she once tweeted that ‘Whenever I see people crying on the street I always want to hug them.’

Personal Life

Scala is unmarried without children, and is seemingly fully devoted to her profession. She keeps her private life below the radar, although in January 2013, there were rumors that she was engaged to a mysterious man, after she was spotted wearing an engagement ring.

Nonetheless, she never confirmed the allegation. She hasn‘t been involved in any scandal or rumor surrounding her business and personal life.

The TV program, “The Great American Health Challenge” has helped Scala reach out to many people, and motivate them to work out regularly, quit smoking, and observe a healthy diet. The show brings together participants from every New York borough who compete in a number of activities related to exercise, food, and many other things including getting more sleep and spending time outdoors without the ‘phone. Scala has admitted that she fully understands what the participants go through, saying that, ‘I have endured some similar experiences as the contestants – not only will it change the contestants’ lives, but I know it will change mine, too.’

Height, Weight, and Physical Appearance

Lauren is of Italian ethnicity, and has long dark brown hair and a set of brown eyes. She weighs approximately 125lbs (57kgs), her height is 5ft 5ins (1.65m), with vital statistics of 32-25-33, and wears dress and shoe sizes 13(US) and 6(US) respectively.

Scala somewhat struggled with weight loss when she was in high school and university, revealing that she used to weigh over 160lbs (70kgs). After she learnt that it was impossible to work as a TV presenter with such weight, she started hitting the gym regularly and following a strict diet to lose weight. She recounts, ‘I didn’t know if they were ever going to accept me at a size 12, but I knew they would accept me at a size 4.’

Net Worth

Clara makes an impressive sum from her hosting and reporting career. Her net worth is approximately $1.5 million as of 2022.
