Early life, family, and education

Charleston White was born in Fort Worth, Texas USA, sometime in 1970, which makes him 52 or 53 years old today. He hasn’t shared his exact birthdate, but it’s known that his ethnicity is African-American. Some reports say that he was raised by his parents, and that his father was a US Navy sailor, while his mother was a housewife, however, this information hasn’t been confirmed by Charleston. He once said that he was raised by remarkable women and men who believed that they could make a difference in his life.

When it comes to his educational background, he attended a local high school before he was arrested and sent to Giddings State School, a correctional facility of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, in Lee County.

Many years later in 2015, Charleston graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Why he was in jail?

Let’s get back to Charleston’s teenage days when he became involved in a street gang, and even became a gang leader. At age of 14, Charleston and his three gang members shoplifted jackets from a Foot Locker store, and the man who tried to stop them was murdered in the parking lot.

Although Charleston didn’t pull the trigger, he was responsible for the shooting death, and so was arrested and sentenced to 12 years in jail, one of the first juveniles to be sentenced for murder under Texas Determining Sentence law.

He was sent to Giddings State School and was supposed to be relocated to an adult facility before he turned 18 years old. However, the staff at the juvenile center saw something in him. Charleston said that their encouragement and inspiration, but also their displays of tough love and consistency, all touched his life.

He learned what responsibility for his actions meant, and developed values, morals, and character to live by. Charleston said that the Capital Offender Program helped him to develop empathy for others, and to value other people’s lives.

When he was back in court on his 18th birthday, the state’s recommendation was to transfer him to the adult prison system, however, four juvenile correctional officers put their jobs on the line and came to testify on his behalf, saying that Charleston has the potential to be somebody, and based on their testimony, the judge gave Charleston another chance in life and sent him back to Giddings.

He was released in 1998 when he was 21 years old, and has never been back to prison.

What is he doing now?

In May 2012, Charleston founded the organization called Hyped about HYPE (Helping Young People Excel). He’s the founder and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of this organization, which among other things has the vision to ensure that at-risk youth across Texas have access to programs that would help them ‘heal the wounds and scars of their journey through life’.

Charleston’s troubles with some famous rappers-What happened?

Charleston amassed a sizeable social media following due to his commentary on rap music and other trending headlines. What he complains about famous rappers is that mostly their rhymes talk about murder, weapons, drugs, fast cars, and crime in general. According to him, they should rap more about love.

Some of the rappers who were on the list of those he doesn’t support are T.I. and Soulja Boy. Actually, Charleston commented about T.I.‘s son who has been arrested, and then the boy known as King Harris, threatened Charleston, so Charleston attempted to get police protection.

Charleston put celebrity son on blast and then T.I. answered with the diss track (offensive song) “Step”. Next, Charleston responded with his own diss track, which was a compilation of his previous videos about T.I. all layered over a beat.

When it comes to Soulja Boy, allegedly, Charleston pepper sprayed him, allegedly when the rapper and ten others cornered Charleston, so he used pepper spray to defend himself. Soulja Boy admitted that he has been sprayed, but denied that he was going to hurt Charleston.

Their fight continued online, and Charleston appears to press criminal charges against the rapper.
