The names of his parents are Khadija Guled and Abdela Kharbouch, and he has two brothers named Ayoub and Zack Kharbouch. Growing up, he was interested in soccer and rapping, and also loved basketball. He was raised on a family estate outside of his hometown until the age of 13, when he emigrated to the United States with his family, where they settled in the South Bronx in New York City. At the time, he only spoke his native language Moroccan Darija Arabic, and French, but soon learned English.

French Montana started his career as a battle rapper in his teens under the stage name Young French. In 2002, he and his close friend created a series of DVDs entitled “Cocaine City”, which quickly became highly popular, and spawned multiple spin-off films. The series featured interviews with famous and upcoming rappers and other major personalities, and ran for eight years until 2010.

He released his debut mixtape “French Revolution Vol. 1” in 2007, followed by his second mixtape “Live From Africa”, which came out the next year. In December 2019, French released his third studio album, entitled “Montana”, which reached No. 25 on the Billboard 200, and was certified gold by RIAA. The album was supported by such singles as “Lockjaw” featuring Kodak Black, “Writing On The Wall” featuring Post Malone and Cardi B, and “No Shopping” featuring Drake, among others. His fourth studio album “They Got Amnesia” features guest appearances from John Legend, Lil Durk, Rick Ross, Pop Smoke, and others – the album was released in November 2021, and peaked at No. 59 on the Billboard 200 chart. Although it didn’t achieve much success, it was met with generally favorable reviews.
