Who is Buckshot Jones?
Buckshot Jones was born Roy Norris Jones under the zodiac sign of Leo on 23 July 1970, in Monticello, Georgia USA; he holds American nationality, and his ethnicity is White. He’s known best as the racing driver who competed in National Association for Stock Car Racing (NASCAR), which was founded back on 21 February 1948 by William France, and is today the sport’s highest level of professional competition in car racing in the US.
Early life and education
Buckshot was raised an only child in Monticello by his parents; he hasn’t revealed his mother’s name, but his father Billy Jones was well known in the NASCAR world; Roy Norris got the nickname ‘Buckshot’ from his grandfather, after he ran into a table and didn’t show any sign of pain.
Buckshot attended Tucker High School, and upon matriculating in 1988, he enrolled at the University of Georgia, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, in 1992.
Career
While he was at college, Buckshot dreamed about racing, and had an interest in motocross, however, his father advised him to try stock cars, since he thought it was safer. After his sixth race, Buckshot told his father that he wanted to be a NASCAR champion, and the two of them developed a five-year plan which should help Buckshot to fulfill his dream.
In 1995, Buckshot moved with his team Buckshot Racing to the NASCAR Busch Series, which was promoted as NASCAR’s ‘minor league’ circuit, and finished in ninth place at the South Boston Speedway race.
After that, he hired Ricky Pearson as his crew chief, which turned out to be a good decision, since Buckshot won two races in 1998, and he was also named Most Popular Driver. In the following year, he made the jump to the Winston Cup, which is the top racing series of NASCAR, but this time he had Ricky’s brother, Larry Pearson as crew chief, however, he failed to qualify in his rookie year, so returned to the Busch Series.
In 2001, Buckshot returned to the Cup Series, driving a Dodge Intrepid for the NASCAR team Petty Enterprises, but failed to qualify five times, and finished 41st in points, while he placed 16th at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR’s longest track at 2.66 miles (4.281 km), located north of Talladega, Alabama.
In April 2002, Buckshot stopped racing, but returned for two races in 2003, competing for Phoenix Racing team, finishing 17th in the Daytona 500, held in Daytona Beach, Florida, and in September of the same year, he drove for the Michael Waltrip Racing team at Talladega, where he had the best performance of his career, leading 19 laps, before his tire disintegrated.
Buckshot sold his team and temporarily retired from racing, but re-appeared in 2004 in a NASCAR sanctioned race, and ran two races in the Busch Series, thenafter two years he returned for the Snowball Derby, a half-mile paved oval track in Pensacola, Florida, but finished last.
He returned to racing in 2007, competing in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, but then he re- retired at the end of the season, and after that, he showed up in 2015, racing in the third division of the Whelen Modified Tour, which is the only open-wheeled division that NASCAR sanctions – this was Buckshot’s last race.
Love life and relationship
There were various rumors both concerning Buckshot’s love life and his sexual orientation, however, it’s widely known that he married his long-time girlfriend Jina Cadena back in 1998. The wedding was held on 21 December, at the First Baptist Church, in Duluth, Minnesota, in the presence of 500 guests, family and friends.
The two had known one another since childhood, dated for a long time, and also worked together on Buckshot’s race team. He proposed to her at the concert of the country singer, Tracy Byrd, who knew about his plan, so while she sang the song “Keeper of the Stars”, Buckshot went on stage holding Jina’s hand, and then he got down on one knee and asked her the ‘famous’ question.
As of December 2021, Buckshot is still in marriage with Jina, and they have a son, born in 2001.
What is he doing today?
After retiring from racing, he started his own business, working in land development and real estate in Gwinnett County, Georgia, alongside his wife. Although he’s successful, he’s still a big fan of NASCAR races, and watches every race on television.
He said that the main reason for his retiring from racing was his family life, however, on the question about his racing career he once answered: ‘I wish I would have gotten into racing a lot sooner, I never did any type of racing until 1990. Every time we’d get competitive, we moved up a class.

I would say the biggest thing I wish I could go back on is maybe having a little bit more patience, being so new with the racing and I’d not been racing for many years, whereas other people had been racing all their lives. I would have liked to have stayed in racing a couple more years and then retire.’
Buckshot Jones made an appearance in the Dale Earnhardt podcast, speaking about his NASCAR career and why he left racing, and there is the video uploaded on YouTube on 27 August 2021, on the “Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Dirty Mo Media”.
