Rory John Gates was born in Seattle, Washington State USA, on 23 May 1999 – his zodiac sign is Gemini, and he holds American nationality. He’s probably only known for being the sole son of Bill Gates, the American business magnate who created Microsoft, and is one of the richest people in the world.

Early life and education

Rory was raised in Seattle alongside his older sister Jennifer Katherine Gates, and their younger sister Phoebe Adele Gates, by their father, and their mother Melinda French, an American former computer scientist and a philanthropist; Rory’s parents married on 1 January 1994, and divorced on 2 August 2021 following a three-year separation.


It’s widely believed that Rory’s interest in computers was born because his father urged him to study the technology, mostly because he’s his only son and heir. Rory attended Lakeside School, and led a rather normal childhood, because Bill and Jennifer didn’t want to spoil their children with their wealth. Rory was interested in various activities during his four years at Lakeside, including creative writing, acting and playing soccer.

Upon matriculating in 2017, he enrolled at Duke University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and economics in 2021.

William Henry ‘Bill’ Gates III was born in Seattle on 28 October 1955 – his zodiac sign is Scorpio, and he holds American nationality. He’s known best for being the co-founder of Microsoft – while he’s worked various jobs at the company, including CEO, chairman, chief software architect, and president.

Bill was raised in Seattle alongside his younger sister Libby, and their older sister Kristi, by their mother Mary Maxwell Gates who was a businesswoman and school teacher, and their father William H. Gates Sr. who was a lawyer. Bill’s father passed away in 2020, aged 95, his mother having passed away in 1994, aged 65.


Bill began attending Lakeside School when he was 13, and it was there that he wrote his first software program; he matriculated in 1973, and then enrolled at Harvard College, from which he dropped out two years later, believing that he couldn’t learn more academically about his interest, computing.

It was in January 1975 that Bill and Paul Allen started working on a BASIC interpreter for Altair 8800, and Allen was then hired at Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS), the company which distributed their Altair BASIC. Bill and Allen called their partnership ‘Micro-Soft’, changing the name to ‘Microsoft’ on 26 November 1976.

In July 1980, Bill and Allen were approached by IBM’s CEO, who wanted them to make an operating system for their IBM PC; the boys came up with 86-DOS, which they sold to IBM for $50,000. Bill and Allen’s partnership ended in 1983, when Allen left because he was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma.

It was on 20 November 1985 that Microsoft launched the operating system Windows, while the widely known Windows XP followed 15 years later.

Bill stepped down as the company’s chairman on 4 February 2014, and has since been working as Microsoft’s technology advisor. He’s today mostly focused on philanthropy, and as of January 2022, has, donated more than $50 billion to charity, mostly through his and his former wife’s Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Bill is also an author, and has published three books: “The Road Ahead” in November 1995, “Business @ the Speed of Thought” in 1999, and “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster” in February 2021.

There has recently been some controversy surrounding Bill; according to the magazine “New York Times”, he started spending time with the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2011, and the two often visited each other.


Bill claims that he only discussed philanthropy with Jeffrey, and in August 2021, he admitted that it was a mistake to spend any time with him.

Who is Rory’s mother Melinda?

Melinda Ann French was born in Dallas, Texas USA, on 15 August 1964 – her zodiac sign is Leo, and she holds American nationality. She’s probably known best for being Bill Gates’ former wife.

Melinda was raised in Dallas alongside her sister and two brothers, by their mother Elaine Agnes Amerland who was a housewife, and their father Raymond Joseph French Jr. who was an aerospace engineer. Melinda was top of her class when attending St. Monica Catholic School, and was 14 when her father showed her how to use the 8-bit home computer Apple II; it was after this that she became interested in BASIC and computer games.


Upon matriculating from Ursuline Academy of Dallas in 1982, Melinda enrolled at Duke University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1986, with a Master of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business in the following year.

She launched her career by teaching children computer programming and math, while she then started working at Microsoft as a marketing manager. She became general manager of information products in 1991, but quit in 1996, wanting to focus on starting a family with Bill.

Between 1996 and 2003, she was on the board of trustees of Duke University, and since 2004, Melinda has been on Graham Holdings’ board of directors.

She’s also an author, and in 2019 published her book “The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World”.
