Who was her son XXXTentacion?
American rapper and singer-songwriter Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy – aka XXXTentacion – was born under the zodiac sign Aquarius on 23 January 1998, in Plantation, Florida USA. He was a highly controversial musician, known for his songs about depression and alienation, and he’s rated to have been a leading figure in the popularization of emo rap. XXXTentacion also often had problems with the authorities, and spent his life in and out of jail.
He was raised by his parents in Plantation; XXXTentacion was born with a hole in his heart, a condition called ventricular septal defect, and this was why he never grew taller than 5ft 6ins (1.68m). As Cleopatra struggled to raise her boys alone, XXXTentacion spent some of his childhood with his grandmother, Collette Jones in Lauderhill, Florida; some reports state that the boy was only six when he tried to stab a man for attacking his mother, and that it was around this time that he was sent off to live with his grandmother. XXXTentacion also stated that he was sexually abused when he was a child, and that his father often beat him; his father began serving a nine-year sentence when XXXTentacion was 10.
He studied at Margate Middle School, but was expelled after starting several fights; XXXTentacion then attended Sheridan House Family Ministries and Piper High School, but from which he eventually dropped out.
He found comfort in music, using it as a way to express his thoughts and feelings. He began releasing tracks on SoundCloud in 2013, gaining attention for his raw and emotionally charged style. His breakout single “Look at Me” was released in 2016, and catapulted him into the mainstream, helping him become a prominent figure in the SoundCloud rap scene.
One of XXXTentacion’s defining features was his versatility as an artist; his music ranged from aggressive tracks to introspective and melodic ballads, showcasing a depth and complexity that resonated with a diverse audience.
XXXTentacion’s career wasn’t without controversy. He often faced legal issues, including charges of domestic violence against his then-pregnant girlfriend in 2016; these legal troubles added a layer of complexity to his public persona, and sparked heated debates about separating an artist’s personal life from their work.
Despite the controversies, XXXTentacion’s impact on the music industry was undeniable; his debut studio album “17” came out in 2017, showcasing his vulnerability and emotional depth, and earning critical acclaim. The album’s success was followed by “?”, which further solidified his position as a genre-defying artist.
Tragically, XXXTentacion’s promising career was cut short on 18 June 2018, when he was shot and killed during a robbery in Deerfield Beach, Florida. In the wake of his death, XXXTentacion’s music continued to resonate with fans, with many mourning the loss of a talent taken too soon.
XXXTentacion’s impact on the music industry has transcended his controversial image; he challenged traditional notions of genre willing to explore new music territories. His willingness to be vulnerable and address mental health in his music resonated with a generation grappling with the same issues.
