Who is Eddie Cahill?

Eddie Cahill is an actor who rose to fame for his role as Jim Craig in the sports movie “Miracle”. He additionally gained popularity portraying Tag Jones in the iconic sitcom “Friends”, and Don Flack in the procedural/crime series “CSI: NY”. Eddie was born under the Zodiac sign Capricorn on 15 January 1978, in New York City, USA, of Italian and Irish descent. As of 2021, he’s 43 years old and holds American nationality.

Early life and Family

His father was a stockbroker, while his mother worked as an elementary school teacher. Eddie grew up in New York alongside his two sisters. In 1966 he matriculated from the Byram Hills High School in Armonk, New York, after which he enrolled at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Eddie launched his acting career in 1999, performing at the Powerhouse Theater in the play “Gramercy Park is Closed to the Public”. The following year, he played Lance in another play entitled “Altruists”, which brought him praise and subsequent success for his unique portrayal and delivery.

In 2000 he transitioned from theater to TV, landing guest roles in popular series such as “Sex and the City” and “Charmed”.

During the same year, he scooped the recurring role as Tag Jones, the under-qualified but handsome candidate for the position of Rachel’s assistant, in the seventh season of the popular sitcom “Friends”. Even though he appeared in just seven episodes, the show was so huge success that it directed his career; he talked about the sitcom in an interview, saying: “It was so popular, so more people identify me from ‘Friends’ than anything else.”

The beginning of his career is marked mainly by roles of typical “good guys”, while in “Felicity” he broke away from his usual portrayals, and took on the role of James, the crazed and obsessed drug dealer, which allowed him to explore and express his acting versatility, additionally displaying his craft as he convincingly and successfully played diametrically opposite characters.

After appearing in an episode of the procedural/crime series “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” in 2002, he was cast as Mike Dolan, the lead character, in the mystery drama series “Glory Days”. Despite initially gaining good reviews, the show proved to be short-lived, as it was canceled three months after it premiered. Building his profile, during the same year he landed two other roles, as Nicholas Trenton in the horror drama series “Haunted”, and Max Winter in the mystery/drama series “Dawson’s Creek”.

In 2004 he scooped his two most notable roles, that of Jim Craig in the sports drama movie  “Miracle”, which recounts the American team’s victory over favored Soviet professionals in the hockey game at the 1980 Winter Olympics, dubbed as “Miracle on Ice”.

Directed by Gavin O’Connor, the film opened to a hail of praise and positive reviews aimed at Eddie’s performance, and accurate historical portrayal of events. Additionally, the movie earned the title as one of the best sports dramas, garnering several nominations and awards, including the Best Sports Movie Espy Award for 2004.

During the same year, he booked the role as of Detective Don Flack, one of the main characters in the procedural/crime series “CSI: NY”, alongside Gary Sinise, Melina Karakadenes and Carmine Giovinazzo. The show premiered in 2004, and ran for nine seasons until 2013, when CBS decided that was enough.

In 2005 he portrayed Larry Gordon in the biographical drama “Lords of Dogtown”; his next movie role came in the 2008 comedy/drama movie “This Is Not a Test”, followed by a role in the independent film “The Narrows”, alongside Sophia Bush and Kevin Zegers.

The show, based on the Stephen’s King eponymous novel, ran for three seasons, while Eddie starred in the second and third season. Even though the show became an instant hit upon premiering, garnering a wide audience, as the show moved on, the popularity and viewership declined severely, prompting CBS to end it with the third season.

In 2016, Eddie was cast as the District Attorney Conner Wallace, in the short-lived legal drama “Conviction”, which was canceled after the first season.

They tied the knot on 12 July  in Los Angeles in a private ceremony with their closest friends and family members.
