Who is Brad Takei?

American actor and producer Brad Takei was born under the zodiac sign Pisces on 25 February 1954, in the USA. He’s perhaps known best for playing Audience Member in the 2008 episode “Robin Williams” of the musical comedy “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”, created by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, who also starred in it; it follows the lives of two comedians.

Brad’s also known for being the husband of famous American actor, activist and author George Takei.

Early life and education

Brad was raised in the USA but because he respects his family’s privacy hasn’t shared many details about his parents; it’s believed that his father was an actor when he was in his 20s and that his mother was a nurse, however, this is all yet to be addressed by Brad. He hasn’t talked about having siblings and most of his fans believe him to be an only child.

Brad studied at a local high school in California and was perhaps mostly into comedy during his four years there; he often performed in school plays, while some of his other interests were practicing creative writing, playing basketball and dancing.

Brad matriculated in 1972 and although he’s yet to talk about his further education, most of his fans believe that he attended college, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1976.

Brad has only two acting credits, including “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”

In 2011, he played Andy in the episode “Hello, My Name Is…” of the drama “Whatever, the Series”, which starred Elisa Catherine Taylor, Elliott Stiles and Kate Morgan Chadwick, and follows the lives of several teenagers.

Producing

Brad has only a single producing credit: in 2013 and 2014, he produced 17 episodes of the talk-show “Takei’s Take”, in which he also starred alongside George Takei and Kana Nakano; the show features Brad and George interviewing various celebrities.

Brad’s received seven special thanks.

His first was in 1997, for the episode “Movies and TV” of the talk-show “The Anti-Gravity Room”, which starred Shashi Bhatia, Phil Guerrero and Nick Amadeus, and follows two men as they’re discussing video games, music and movies.

In 2007, Brad received special thanks for the comedy film “Finishing the Game”, which Justin Lin wrote and directed, and which starred Sung Kang, Dustin Nguyen and Roger Fan. It follows the death of Bruce Lee and the search for his look-a-like to finish shooting the film “Game of Death”; the movie won a VC FilmFest – Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival Award for Best Actress, for Meredith Scott Lynn.

In 2011, Brad received special thanks for the biographical historical documentary movie “Vito”, directed by Jeffrey Schwarz, and which starred Richard Barrios, George Bancroft and Phyllis Antonellis. It follows the life of Vito Russo, a gay liberation movement activist and the author of “The Celluloid Closet”; the film won five of its 10 award nominations.

Brad’s following thanks was for the 2013 documentary movie “Bridegroom”, written and directed by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, and which starred Jessica Mitchell, David Crone and Cindy Bitney. It follows Tom and Shane who are planning to marry in California after the same-sex marriage law is passed, however, Tom dies and his family won’t let Shane attend his funeral; the film won 10 of its 12 award nominations.

In 2015, Brad received special thanks for the biographical documentary movie “Tab Hunter Confidential”, directed by Jeffrey Schwarz, and which starred Tab Hunter, Clint Eastwood and Natalie Wood; it follows the life of actor and singer Tab Hunter, and the film won eight of its 11 award nominations. Also in 2015, Brad received special thanks for the episode “Limited Partnership” of the documentary film “Independent Lens”.

His only other thanks has been for the 2022 animated action comedy movie “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank”, directed by Rob Minkoff and Chris Bailey, and which starred Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Cera and Ricky Gervais. It follows the dog Hank who’s dreaming about becoming a samurai, and the movie won one of its two award nominations.

Other credits

Some of Brad’s recent talk-show appearances have been in “To Be Takei”, “Tvoovies” and “It Takeis Two”.

Love life and relationships

Brad and George kept their relationship a secret for 18 years because of how it might affect both of their careers, and George only came out gay in October 2005 and revealed that they had been together since 1987 because now-former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was against same-sex marriage. George also took the opportunity to describe Brad as a ‘saint’, revealing that he had helped him take care of his terminally ill mother.

The two exchanged vows in a small and private ceremony in 2008, and seem to be happy together today; they have no children nor has there been any talk about them adopting.

We don’t know about other men whom Brad had perhaps dated prior to meeting George.

More than a million people are following Brad on Facebook today, and all his posts combined have amassed more than 1.1 million likes; he tends to share new content every day and most of it is about the LGBT community, as well as about family and relationship issues.

Brad’s a philanthropist and he and George have donated large amounts of money to charity; they’re mostly into helping teenagers who are suffering from AIDS.

He was physically quite active during his 20s and 30s as he often worked out at the gym.

Clint Eastwood’s one of Brad’s favorite actors and directors, and a couple of his favorite movies are “The Eiger Sanction”, “Space Cowboys” and “For a Few Dollars More”.
