Who is James Haven?
American actor, producer and director James Haven Voight was born in Los Angeles, California USA, on 11 May 1973, so Taurus is his zodiac sign. He’s appeared in 15 movies and TV series, and is probably still known best for playing Faust in the 2001 romantic mystery movie “Original Sin”, written and directed by Michael Cristofer, based on the novel “Waltz Into Darkness” by Cornell Woolrich, and which starred Antonio Banderas, Angelina Jolie and Thomas Jane. The movie follows a woman who’s trying to trick a wealthy man into marrying and then robbing him, however, she falls in love with him along the way; it was nominated for two awards.
James is also known for being the older brother of famous American actress, moviemaker and humanitarian Angelina Jolie.

James and Angelina were raised solely by their mother, American actress Marcia Lynne ‘Marcheline’ Bertrand, as she divorced their father Jonathan Vincent ‘Jon’ Voight when James was three; Jon’s also a famous actor, and won an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in the 1978 romantic war movie “Coming Home”. James’ uncles are volcanologist and geologist Barry Voight, and singer-songwriter Chip Taylor.t
James grew up in Palisades, New York State ,and was 13 when the family moved back to Los Angeles, and he enrolled at Beverly Hills High School; he matriculated in 1991 and then enrolled at University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1998.
While still attending college, James directed a short film and won a George Lucas Award.
Roles in movies
James’ debut film role was playing Young Man on Sansom Street in the 1998 biographical romantic film “Gia”, written and directed by Michal Cristofer, and which starred Angelina Jolie, Faye Dunaway and Elizabeth Mitchell. It follows the life and untimely death of top fashion model Gia Carangi, and the film won 11 of its 24 award nominations.
Also in 1998, James portrayed Boyle’s Bartender in the crime drama “Hell’s Kitchen”, and the following year saw him play Jamie Park in the family comedy “Scrapbook”. In 2001, he portrayed Hospital Guard in the critically acclaimed romantic drama “Monster’s Ball”, directed by Marc Forster, and which starred Billy Bob Thornton, Halle Berry and Taylor Simpson. It follows a racist prison guard who’s fallen in love with an African-American woman, and the movie won 16 of its 39 award nominations, including an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Halle Berry).

Some of James’ following roles were in the 2002 thriller “Ocean Park”, the 2003 drama “Hunting of Man” and the 2004 short musical comedy “Rent-a-Person”. In 2006, he played Jonathan Malkus in the mystery fantasy horror “Stay Alive”, written and directed by William Brent Bell, and which starred Jon Foster, Samaire Armstrong and Frankie Muniz; it follows a group of friends as they’re learning about their mutual friend’s mysterious death.
James has since been less active in the film industry, and has appeared in only three movies: the 2007 short romantic comedy “Validation”, the 2012 drama “Deep in the Heart”, and the 2014 short drama “Easy Silence”.
He hasn’t officially retired from acting, but has been staying away from the film industry since 2014.
Roles in TV series
James has appeared in only two TV series. He played Lazarus Kane in the 2004 episode “Suckers” of the crime mystery “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, created by Anthony E. Zuiker, and which starred William Petersen, Laurence Fishburne and Ted Danson. The series follows several police forensics as they’re working in Las Vegas, it aired from 2000 through 2015 and won 74 of its 201 award nominations.
In 2007, James played Director in the episode “The Ghost of Derwin Past” of the romantic comedy “The Game”, which Mara Brock Akil created, and which starred Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson and Hosea Chanchez. It follows the lives of several women whose boyfriends are professional Football Players, the series aired from 2006 through 2015 and won five of its 30 award nominations.

James produced the 2005 documentary movie “Trudell”, the 2011 short comedy film “That’s Our Mary” and the 2014 short drama movie “Easy Silence”, and he directed the 2015 short drama film “Court of Conscience”.

James and his sister Angelina weren’t on good terms with their father Jon while they were growing up, which led James to eventually drop ‘Voight’ as his last name; after his mother died from ovarian cancer on 27 January 2007, he reconciled with Jon following six years of estrangement.

He dislikes social media networks, and doesn’t even have an Instagram account; he’s allowed for his fan page to be made, and it’s today followed by nearly 800 people, but only six pictures have been uploaded onto it.
