Carole Ann Boone was famously known for being the ex-wife of the infamous American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist and necrophile, Ted Bundy.
Age, Early Life, and Education Background
Carole Ann Boone was born in Olympia, Washington, in 1947 – her exact date of birth is unavailable. There is no information regarding her family, early life, or educational background.
Career
Boone landed a job at the Washington State Department of Emergency Services in her hometown in the mid-‘70s. She was described as a ‘lusty-tempered free spirit’, and ‘witty, smart, and very competent’ by her colleagues.
Boone was important in Ted Bundy’s story, and as a result, she’s been mentioned in several books and films about him. She was portrayed by the English actress Kaya Scodelario in the 2019 thriller movie “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” in which the American actor Zac Efron starred as Bundy.
Personal Life
Boone met her husband-to-be, Ted Bundy when she was working under the Washington State Emergency Management Division. Bundy also worked there, and was tasked with helping officers trace missing people – ironically, most of these were the same women he’d kidnapped and killed. Boone had just divorced her second husband when she met Bundy, and had a teenage son named James from one of her previous relationships, and Bundy had just broken up with his girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer.
Carole was unaware of Bundy’s criminal activities when they met, and in the book “The Only Living Witness: The True Story of Serial Sex Killer Ted Bundy,” which was written by Hugh Aynesworth and Stephen G. Michaud, revealed ‘I liked Ted immediately. We hit it off well…He struck me as being a rather shy person with a lot more going on under the surface than what was on the surface. He certainly was more dignified and restrained than the more certifiable types around the office.’

They soon fell in love and began dating in 1974. A year later, Bundy was arrested and imprisoned in Utah for the attempted kidnapping of a woman named Carol DaRonch, and was sentenced to one-15 years in jail. While in jail, police linked him to the murder of a woman named Caryn Campbell, and he was transferred to another prison in Colorado.
Boone was a victim of Bundy’s charm on women, and supported him blindly even after he was being linked with murder. She visited him regularly, and its reported that she even smuggled money into jail to aid his escape. As a result of her unlawful actions, Bundy managed to escape, and subsequently murdered two Chi Omega Sorority girls, Lisa Levy, and Margaret Bowman, and also kidnapped, raped, and killed a girl named Kimberley Leach, who was 12 years old. Ironically, Boone continued supporting him after he was recaptured (1978), and even relocated to Gainesville, Florida, to witness his trials.
Interestingly, Bundy took full advantage of the Florida law, which allows two people to declare themselves husband and wife in the presence of a judge, and proposed to Carole during one of his trials in February 1980. It’s alleged that Carole bribed prison officers to grant Ted conjugal visits, and two years later she became pregnant with his child, welcoming their daughter Rose Bundy in October 1982. However, she stopped visiting him three years before his execution because the prison environment was reportedly distressing her daughter, and later divorced Ted in 1986. Carole’s believed to have changed her name and that of her child after the divorce, and it remains unknown to where the family relocated.
It is widely speculated that Carole died of septic shock at a Washington-based state retirement home in 2018. If the speculations are true, the ex-wife of Ted Bundy was around 71 years old at the time of her death.
Height, Weight, and Physical Appearance
Carole was of White ethnicity, and had a pair of brown eyes and dark brown hair. She weighed around 120lbs (54kgs) and was 5ft 6ins (1.68m) tall; her vital statistics were 35-27-36 , and she wore shoe size 8(US).
Net Worth
Carole’s primary source of income was her job at the Department of Emergency Services in Washington. She ‘completely vanished’ after her divorce, and so her net worth remains unknown.
About Carole Boone’ Ex-Husband, Ted Bundy
Theodore Robert ‘Ted’ Bundy was born in Burlington, Vermont, under the Sagittarius zodiac sign on 24 November 1946. His mother, Eleanor Louise Cowell, was unmarried when he was born, and he spent most of his childhood with his grandmother in Roxborough, Philadelphia, and grew up believing that his grandmother was his mother, and that his mother was his sister, but eventually found out the truth in 1969, which made him resent his mom for the rest of his life, according to the late American true crime author, Ann Rae Rule, who knew him personally.

It’s reported that Bundy began exhibiting disturbing behavior as a child – he was a notorious bully, who enjoyed terrifying and inflicting pain on people. Bundy enrolled at the Tacoma-based University of Puget Sound (UPS), and later transferred to the University of Washington, where he studied Chinese. He also attended the University of Utah Law School, but didn’t complete his studies.
It is not clear when Bundy began torturing and killing women. However, it is known that he attempted his first kidnapping in Ocean City, New Jersey, in 1969. He confessed to killing 30 young women across several US states in the ‘70s, but it is believed that the final tally of his victims was higher than that. He used to lure his victims into his car (a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle, which is currently on display at Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Tennessee) by faking an injury and asking for help from young women, whom he would kidnap, rape, and kill in cold blood.
Bundy made two daring escapes in Colorado in the late ‘70s, but was recaptured in 1978. He was sentenced to death twice, in 1979 and 1980, and was eventually executed at Florida State Prison on 24 January 1989. Many authors, including Elizabeth Kendall, Stephen G. Michaud, and Kevin M. Sullivan have published books about Ted, and his criminal life inspired many films including “The Deliberate Stranger” in 1986, “Bundy: An American Icon” in 2008, and “Ted Bundy” American Boogeyman” in 2021 among others. He’s survived by the daughter he had with Carole, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
