Who is Deborah Divine?

When the series “Shitt’s Creek” began airing in 2015, fans noticed that besides Eugene Levy, his children are also appearing in the show. This raised questions about his wife, as many assumed she was also part of the cast.

However, although employed in the industry, his wife Deborah Divine works behind the scenes. She’s a writer and producer, probably still known best for her work on the 1990s series “Maniac Mansion”, which received numerous accolades.

Early life, family, and education

Deborah Divine was born under the zodiac sign of Leo on 6 August 1959, in Canada. Deborah’s age is 63 (as of 2022), but she hasn’t revealed exactly where she was born, and also nothing is known about her father.

Deborah’s mother is Patricia Divine, an opera singer, who sang at The Royal Conservatory, in Toronto, Canada, but unfortunately, despite her potential and incredible gift, she wasn’t able to afford more lessons, so her career never really materialised. Deborah and her husband Eugene Levy named a seat in Koerner Hall at The Royal Conservatory of Music in honor of Patricia, for her 80th birthday.

Marriage with Eugene Levy

Deborah and Eugene haven’t revealed how and when they met, however, they began dating sometime in 1973. After four years, the couple exchanged their wedding vows in the presence of their family members and friends, and reportedly there were 300 guests.

On 9 August 1983, Deborah gave birth to their first child, a son named Daniel Joseph Levy better known as Dan Levy. He is an actor, comedian, writer and director, and is perhaps known best for his role as David Rose in “Shitt’s Creek” which he co-created with his father.

Dan has once spoken about his mother, that the two have a very close mother-son bond, and saying that she was the first person who asked him if he’s gay, and was very supportive when he came out publicly as gay.

Deborah and Eugene’s daughter Sarah Levy was born on 10 September 1986, and she’s also an actress, who rose to prominence thanks to her role as Twyla Sands in the sitcom “Shitt’s Creek”. Sarah is married to actor Graham Outerbridge, and they have a son together.

An actor with over 100 acting credits to his name, Eugene Levy, was born in Hamilton, on 17 December 1946, so is today aged 75. He’s a Canadian, and comes from a Jewish family; his mother was a Polish Jewish from Scotland, and his father was Sephardi Jewish, whose ancestors are from Bulgaria and Spain. Eugene has two siblings, Fred and Barbara, who both prefer to keep their lives away from the public eye.

Eugene made his acting debut in the 1971 movie “Foxy Lady”, and rose to prominence as Bobby Bitman on the sketch show “SCTV”, which aired from 1976 until 1981. From 1981 until 1983, he co-wrote and starred in the spin-off, entitled “SCTV Network”, which brought him his first Primetime Emmy Award (Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program).

This comedy-drama tells the story of Johnny and his family, who went from extreme wealth to penniless overnight, and their only possession is the small town of Sheet Creek, so they move there and the adventure begins.

As mentioned, the stars of the series are Eugene, and his and Deborah’s children, Den and Sarah, and one of the main characters is portrayed by Catherine O’Hara, who plays Johnny’s wife – people thought that Catherine is Eugene’s real-life wife.
