Cassius Brown

Born on 30th May 2009 in the USA, Cassius Brown’s claim to fame is being the youngest son of singer-songwriter Bobby Brown, whom many will remember for his turbulent marriage to Whitney Houston.

In May 2022, A&E launched a new reality show focusing on the musician and his family, entitled “Bobby Brown: Every Little Step”. According to the network, the show aimed to provide viewers with exclusive access to the Brown family, while Bobby prepared for an upcoming tour.

Despite appearing in almost every episode, Cassius obviously didn’t get much camera time compared to his famous parents (his mother, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, started off as Bobby’s manager and is now a media personality in his own right). During one episode, Cassius accompanied Bobby to the studio to record his own songs, implying that he may be interested in following his father’s footsteps.

The show was ultimately canceled due to lackluster ratings, and Cassius has maintained a low profile ever since – so much so that even his current height and weight are a mystery. As he’s technically too young to have his own social media accounts, it may be a while until we start seeing him on a regular basis.

According to The Sun US, Bobby and his family live in a $1.3 million, five-bedroom property in a gated community in Valencia, on the outskirts of Los Angeles. As such, we can assume that Cassius and his siblings are studying at a private school in the area.

Parents

Robert Barisford ‘Bobby’ Brown Sr. was born on 5th February 1969 in Boston, Massachusetts, and is credited with being one of the pioneers of the new jack swing movement, which is a fusion of hip hop and R&B.

At just nine years old, Bobby launched his musical career as one of the founding members of the R&B and pop group New Edition. In December 1985, he left New Edition behind and began working on his solo debut; less than three years later, his sophomore project, “Don’t Be Cruel”, received critical acclaim and spawned five Billboard Top 10 singles.

The musician’s third album, “Bobby”, was certified 3-times platinum and also resulted in a number of commercially successful singles such as “Good Enough” and “Get Away”, despite not being as well-received as its predecessor.

In 1992, the Massachusetts native married singer Whitney Houston after a whirlwind romance. The pair first met at the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards, and soon struck up a friendship that blossomed into something more; unfortunately, their marriage was plagued with rumors of alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, and infidelity.

Due to Whitney’s superstar status and global fame, her issues with Bobby became tabloid fodder, and eventually turned the couple into laughing stocks; it didn’t help that Bobby was generally considered to be a has-been who was jealous of his wife’s achievements. One of the darker episodes in their marriage came in 2003, when the New Edition founding member was charged with battery following an altercation; however, they patched things up and the following year began working on their reality show, “Being Bobby Brown”,.

Whitney filed for divorce in September 2006, having initially filed for legal separation. The divorce proceedings were finalized in April 2007, with the “I Will Always Love You” hitmaker receiving custody of their teenage daughter. During a September 2009 appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show, Whitney confessed to occasionally using drugs with her ex-husband, and confirmed that he’d been abusive to her during their marriage.

At the time of the interview, Bobby had already been dating his manager, Alicia, for two years; they had also welcomed Cassius as the first addition to their family. The couple married in June 2012 in Hawaii, and went on to have two daughters named Bodhi and Hendrix Estelle, who were born in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

As for Cassius’s mother, Alicia previously described herself as ‘the yin to [Bobby’s] yang’ and first met the singer in 1987, when he was just 18 years old. According to Bobby, he and Alicia became friends almost immediately and began hanging out together with their other associates – if this version of events is to be believed, Alicia was 13 or 14 years old at the time. (All online biographies list her birthday as 21st December 1973).

It must be said that there are more than a few inconsistencies when it comes to Bobby and Alicia’s relationship. For example, Alicia previously claimed that she had to convince Bobby to walk down the aisle on his wedding day, as his groomsmen were unable to get him to leave the bathroom and marry Whitney. Meanwhile, Bobby once said: ‘After me getting divorced, for some strange reason, I saw her again, and sparks flew’ – implying that he and Alicia had fallen out of touch for many years.

Alicia has been managing Bobby since 2008, and some of the other celebs she’s worked with in the past include Macy Gray and Magic Johnson, so she clearly knows how to navigate the tricky world of showbiz. Not many details of Alicia’s family have been made public, but we can confirm that her sister is also a keen businesswoman, who has founded her own haircare line.

In 2012, Alicia was hospitalized after suffering a seizure in her and Bobby’s hotel room while her husband was doing a soundcheck for a New Edition show. However, she recovered in record time, and hasn’t suffered any health scares since then.

Siblings

We already mentioned that Cassius has two younger sisters named Bodhi and Hendrix Estelle, but he also has four older siblings, two of whom are deceased.

The oldest Brown, Landon, was born in June 1986 to Bobby and Melika Williams, and is said to be working in the entertainment industry. Melika was Bobby’s first serious girlfriend, but the relationship didn’t work out, as he soon became involved with Kim Ward, the mother of his next two children – La’Princia and Bobby Brown Jr., who were born in 1989 and 1991 respectively.

La’Princia is married to TV personality Eddie Ray but isn’t interested in showbiz, whereas Bobby Jr. passed away in November 2020 after accidentally overdosing on fentanyl, alcohol, and cocaine. Bobby Jr. and his father shared a close relationship, so his untimely death was a devastating blow to the family.

Last but not least is Bobby and Whitney’s only child, Bobbi Kristina, who was born in 1993 after the couple had suffered several miscarriages. The singer and reality TV personality’s troubled life was cut tragically short in January 2015, when she was found unconscious in a bathtub at home. Although Bobbi didn’t die that night, she spent the next six months in a coma and passed away from lobar pneumonia at just 22 years old; her tragic death – which eerily echoes her mother’s – has since been the subject of documentaries and TV movies.
