Sydney Leroux was born on the 7th May, 1990 in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, and is a professional soccer player, who plays in the position of striker for the club of FC Kansas City in the NWSL as well as the US National women’s soccer team. Sydney has been playing soccer professionally since 2005, although she has represented the USA national team since 2004.

To begin with, Leroux began playing football when studying at Johnston Heights Secondary School. She was also an athlete, in the 4x100m relay. At 14, she became the youngest player of Canadian team in the Women’s World U-19 Championship 2004 held in Thailand. With BC’s soccer team, she won the national championship in 2005 at the Canada Games.

She made her professional debut at the age of 15, with the Vancouver Whitecaps, the youngest player in the history of the club. Thereafter with her hometown team, the Coquitlam City Wild Sereno FC, she won the provincial championship of British Columbia for three consecutive seasons (2006-08). In 2008, she was recruited by the University of California, Los Angeles and played for the university women’s soccer team, the UCLA Bruins from 2008 to 2011. At the end of her university studies, she played one season with the Vancouver Whitecaps, and her 11 goals in 11 games helped the team to reach the semi-finals of the W-League. During the 2011- 2012 season, she was signed by the Atlanta Beat of the Women’s Professional Soccer 2, but she was suspended for the 2012 season, after which she signed with the Seattle Sounders Women playing in the W-League 3. In 2013, she signed with the Boston Breakers, and a year later, Sydney played for Seattle Reign FC. In 2015, Leroux was a member of Western New York Flash, and in 2016, she has signed to play for FC Kansas City.

Under the nationality of both parents (born to a Canadian mother and an American father), Leroux has had the option to represent either Canada or the United States. She participated in international youth games with the two countries, but in 2008 chose to represent the USA at U20 level, and her performance in Chile equalled the record for goals and helped to win the gold medal for the team – Leroux received the Golden Ball and the Golden Boot as individual awards. In 2010, she participated again in the U-20 World Cup for Women, this time held in Germany; with five goals in this World Cup U-20, Leroux won the Bronze Shoe. In 2011, Leroux received her first cap with the senior national team of the USA. However, she was not selected for the World Cup held in Germany. In 2012, during the pre-Olympic CONCACAF tournament, Leroux scored her first goal with the national team. She was a part of the gold medal-winning American team in the Summer Olympic Games in 2012, and the World Championship team in 2015.

Finally, in the personal life of the sportswoman, she married professional soccer player Dom Dwyer in 2015, and in 2016, she has announced that she is pregnant.
