Moakler grew up in a middle-class family, along with her three siblings; she attended Rhode Island’s Barrington High School. During her teenage years, she was an avid roller skater, participating in various events. She began her modeling career at 15, winning the Miss Teen All- American title in 1993, and two years later being named Miss New York, and then finished as the first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant held in Texas in 1995, but later received the Miss USA crown, after the original winner Chelsi Smith became Miss Universe.

Moakler began her acting career in 1996, appearing in the television series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” and “Due South”. The following year she made her film debut as Jaime in the “Posion Ivy: The New Seduction”, and was cast as Lisa in the NBC film “Friends ’til the End”. In 1998 she appeared in an episode of the television series “Timecop” and had minor parts in the films “Telling You” and “The Wedding Singer”. That same year, Moakler joined the cast of the crime drama series “Pacific Blue”, playing Officer Monica Harper for two seasons. Her net worth was well established.

In 1999 she appeared in the film “Love Stinks”, and in “Critical Mass” the following year. She went on to appear in the 2003 film “Pauly Shore Is Dead”, the 2004 “Seeing Other People” and in the 2006 “Big Momma’s House 2”. Moakler then appeared as herself in the 2008 miniseries “I Love the New Millenium”. All contributed to her net worth.

In 1999-2000 Moakler appeared as a celebrity contestant in the game show “Search Party”. In 2001 she posed nude for Playboy, being selected as a Playmate of the Month. Two years later she appeared in the “Punk’d” reality series, helping the show’s crew to set up her then-boyfriend, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, with a waiter flirting with her while the couple was on a date. In 2005 Moakler appeared in the sitcoms “Joey” and “Jake in Progress”, and starred in MTV’s reality series “Meet the Barkers”, which portrayed the everyday life of her and her then-husband Barker and their children. It lasted for two seasons and greatly added to Moakler’s wealth.

In 2006 the actress appeared in an episode of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, again with Barker. The same year she briefly participated in the ABC’s dance competition show “Dancing with the Stars”. Moakler served as hostess of the reality series “Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants” in 2008. Two years later she took part in NBC’s “Minute to Win It” game show and won $100,000 for her charity, and then hosted E! Network’s reality series “Bridalplasty”. In 2014 she served as a celebrity judge in the game show “Price Is Right” and joined the reality television series “Hollywood Exes” the same year, boosting her wealth.

In addition to her film and television career, Moakler has served as the executive producer of the Miss Nevada USA state pageant, and as a co-director of the Miss California USA pageant.

Moakler’s private life has always attracted considerable media attention. In 1997 she dated the rock star Billy Idol, with whom she appeared in the film “The Wedding Singer”. In 1999 she became engaged to boxer Oscar de la Hoya, and had a child with him, before separating the following year. Not long after, Moakler filed a $62.5 million palimony suit against de la Hoya, claiming him to be an abusive alcoholic who used her and their child ‘as props to promote his public image’ – the case was settled out of court and public eye. In 2004 Moakler married Barker with whom she has two children; the couple was constantly making headlines during their time together, due to their frequent separations and reconciliations. They finally divorced in 2008.
