Rashard Lewis grew up in Louisiana with his twin sister and two brothers, but went to Alief Elsik High School in Houston, Texas. He was a successful basketball player while in high school, where he won Gatorade Player of the Year, the Houston Chronicle Player of the Year, and Texas Magazine Player of the Year. Despite having the opportunity to join colleges in Florida, Kansas, and Houston, Lewis opted to bypass them and enter the 1998 NBA Draft.

The Seattle Supersonics selected him as the 32nd pick overall in the second round, and although Lewis’ first two seasons were weak, he became a starter in the 2000-01 season and finished the year with 14.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and .432 % for three points in 34.9 minutes per game. He formed a great partnership with Ray Allen, and the two of them helped the Sonics to become title contenders in the West. Lewis was one of the best forwards in the NBA during the early and mid-2000s, and he had a vital role for Seattle.

In the 2004-05 season, Rashard averaged 20.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and earned his first ever All-Star invitation. From 2004 to 2007 Lewis was at his peak, and in 2006-07, he recorded a career-best season with 22.4 points per game before moving to the Orlando Magic in a six-year $118 million deal, which only increased his net worth by a large margin. The next two seasons in Florida were rather fruitful for Rashard as he averaged 18.2 and 17.7 points per game respectively, and in 2008-09, he managed to earn his second call to the All-Star game, but from that point, his numbers went down. However, he and the Magic won the Eastern Conference Finals against Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009, but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games in the NBA Finals. In August 2009, Lewis was suspended for the opening ten games of the season after testing positive for a banned substance.

In December 2010, Rashard was traded to the Washington Wizards for the point guard Gilbert Arenas. Over the course of two seasons, Lewis played in 60 games and averaged 9.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in that span. He stayed in the capital until July 2012 when he signed a two-year deal with the Miami Heat, where he reunited with former teammate Ray Allen. Although starting in only nine matches during the regular season and averaging 5.2 points per game, Lewis was a part of the championship team after the Heat defeated San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. Rashard had a slightly bigger role in the 2013-14 season when the Heat reached the big finals again, but this time, the Spurs won the title.

In July 2014, Rashard Lewis signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks, but only four days later; the Mavs voided his contract after discovering that Lewis had an injured right knee and that required surgery, so Lewis retired soon after. In his solid NBA career, Rashard represented the United States at Goodwill Games in Sydney 2001, when the American national team won the golden medal.

Regarding his personal life, Rashard Lewis married Giovanni Fortes in 2011, and has two sons and a daughter with her.
