After moving out of New York City, Núñez spent much of his childhood in Wilson, North Carolina, in the care of his grandparents where he attended high school, before moving out to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor. He did not find immediate success, and struggled for quite some time, taking odd jobs, including working as a telemarketer for the LA Lakers. He eventually landed his first on screen role, the small part of “Jock #2” in 1984’s “National Lampoon’s Joy of Sex”.

Núñez had two roles in iconic horror movies series in 1985, in both “Friday the 13th: A New Beginning” and as Spider in “The Return of the Living Dead”. He continued with a stream of steady acting work, appearing in small, unnamed roles in a variety of projects, both lower and higher budget. In 1987, he appeared in the opening scene of “Lethal Weapon”, but was cut from the final version of the movie. As a consolation, he appeared in the second sequel, and was given a line of speech.

In 2002, things picked up in Núñez’s career, when he appeared in the “Scooby Doo” movie, and then starred in the comedy “Juwanna Mann”, as the titular character. He has often appeared alongside successful actor and comedian Eddie Murphy, including in “Life”, “Pluto Nash”, and “Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps”, adding steadily to his net worth.

In 2006, Núñez had a recurring role alongside Matt LeBlanc in the second season of the “Friends” spin-off, “Joey”, playing Joey’s best friend, Zach, but quit the show before it ended, missing the last five episodes of the season run. The show proved a ratings failure, and was cancelled before all the episodes had been aired by the network, though his appearance on a primetime network show, however short lived, must have contributed to his overall net worth.

Núñez currently has several movies in post-production and scheduled for a 2017 release. He has several producer credits, mainly for short or video movies, though also for TV shows including “Homeboys in Outer Space”, a programme for which he also wrote one episode. He created the show “Belle’s” with Ed. Weinberger in 2012, and wrote several episodes which starred Keith David and Elise Neal. The show followed an African American family who run a restaurant in Atlanta, although only one season was made; Núñez also played a role on the show. In 2004, he directed “Up Against the 8 Ball”, a comedy about two college girls who play pool to make money for their tuition.

In his personal life, Núñez married in 1994 to Yulanda Simon, with whom he has two daughters. His philanthropic work includes helping at Union Rescue Mission, which helps homeless people in the LA area.
