He inherited $10,000 from his grandfather, which he then used to start the record store No Limit Records, in Richmond, California, which later also became the record label.

His debut studio album “Get Away Clean” came out on 12 February 1991, but failed to garner any attention. However, he continued to make new music and in 1992 he released his second album “Mama’s Bad Boy”.

He struggled in the early ‘90s as a solo act, but his rap group TRU was making big progress, especially with the album “True” (1995), which reached No. 25 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and the single “I’m Bout’ It, Bout It”, became one of his best-known songs.

Master P’s career continued in the right direction in the second half of the ‘90s and into the early 2000s, with albums such as “Ghetto D” (1997), which was his first No. 1 album and which achieved triple platinum status, then “MP da Last Don” (1998), the second No. 1 album, and his most successful album with four times platinum certification.

Before the end of the ‘90s his album “Only God Can Judge Me” (1999), reached No. 2 on US Billboard 200 chart.

From the mid- 2000s, Master P’s career declined and his new albums failed to achieve the prominence of his previous releases. He now has 14 studio albums, his latest being “Empire, from the Hood to Hollywood” (2015), plus in 2017 he released the EP “Intelligent Hoodlum”.

Master P is an actor as well, and some of his popular appearances include as Black in the film “I Got the Hook Up” (1998), then as Julius Armas in the film “Hollywood Homicide” (2003), and he’s now working on several projects, including films “King of the South” and “Angola 1,2 & 3”, both of which are currently in pre-production and awaiting a release date.

He has invested in many industries over the course of his career, and as of early 2022, Master P’s net worth has been estimated at over $200 million, which makes him one of the wealthiest figures in the American hip hop scene.
