Rise to Fame and Los Bukis

Marco launched his professional music career in 1970 when he started performing as a member of El Dueto Solís, alongside his cousin Joel Solís; the name of the duo was later changed to Los Soles Tarascos and then to Los Hermanitos Solís. They made their debut TV appearance in the famous TV program “Siempre En Domingo”, after which they signed a contract with the record label Discos Melody in 1972. Three years later, they changed the name one more time to Los Bukis and released their debut studio album “Falso Amor”, with the album’s lead single of the same title becoming an instant hit in Latin America.

It was followed up by the studio albums “Te Tuve Y Te Perdi” (1977), “Me Siento Solo” (1978), “Los Triunfadores” (1979), “Me Muero Porque Seas Mi Novia” (1980), and “Presiento Que Voy A Llorar” (1981).

Continued Success

In 1982, Los Bukis released their seventh studio album “Yo Te Necesito”, which earned them a Grammy Award nomination for Best Mexican-American Performance – Marco wrote and composed most of the songs for the album. It was followed by “Mi Fantasia” (1984) and “A Donde Vas” (1985), which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart.


Their next studio album “Me Volvi A Acordar De Ti” was issued two years later and reached No. 6 on Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart, selling more than a million copies in the first few weeks after its release and earning diamond certification. Thereafter, Los Bukis received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Mexican-American album for their next studio album, entitled “Si Me Recuerdas” (1988).

Further Work

In 1989, Los Bukis recorded the album “Y Para Simpre”, which includes their number-one hit single “Cómo Fuí A Enamorarme de Tí”. Two years later, Los Bukis’ album “A Través De Tus Ojos” was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Latin Pop Album, and spawned such singles as “Mi Deseo”, “Dos”, and “Chiquilla Bonita”.

It was followed up by “Quiéreme” (1992), which received a gold certification in the US from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Their next two albums “Inalcanzable” (1993) and “Por Amor A Mi Pueblo” (1995) were also certified gold by the RIAA, and nominated for a Lo Nuestro Award for Pop Album of the Year. The duo disbanded shortly afterwards,  since Marco decided to pursue his career further as a solo artist.

Solo Career

Marco released his debut solo studio album in 1996, under the label Fonovisa Records, entitled “En Pleno Vuelvo”; the álbum was quite successful, since it was certified gold by the RIAA, and it also received the Lo Nuestro Award for Pop Album of the Year – his next album “Marco” (1997) received the same nomination.


Two years later, he issued the album “Trozos De Mi Alma”, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums, and earned platinum certification for selling more than a million units in the US.

He continued to line up success after success, when he made public “Más De Mi Alma” (2001) that also topped the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, and earned a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album, Male. He then released more number one albums, “Tu Amor O Tu Desprecio” (2003), “Razón De Sobra” (2004), “Trozos De Mi Alma, Vol. 2” (2006), “No Molestar” (2008), “En Total Plenitud” (2010) and “Gracias Por Estar Aquí” (2013), which also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. Most recently, he issued “Qué Ganas De Verte – EP” in 2021.

Besides those, Marco has also collaborated with numerous music artists, such as Enrique Iglesias, Marc Anthony, Anaís, Chayanne, Ana Bárbara, Olga Tañón, Rocío Dúrcal, and Marisela, to name a few. Thanks to his accomplishments, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010, having in 2000 been inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame.
