Who is Khalil Kain?
Khalil Kain was born in New York City, USA, on 22 November 1964 – his zodiac sign is Scorpio, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor, movie producer and a rapper, who has been credited with appearing in more than 50 movies and TV series, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of Private Roosevelt Nathaniel Hobbs in the 1994 comedy movie “Renaissance Man”. It was directed by Penny Marshall, starred Danny DeVito, James Remar and Gregory Hines, which follows a businessman who’s helping army recruits through basic training.

Early life and education
Khalil was raised in Manhattan, New York City by his African-American father Gylan Kain who was a poet, and his mother June of Chinese and African-American descent; as he hasn’t spoken of having any siblings, Khalil is believed to be an only child.
He grew up being interested in acting, and spent nearly every night watching movies and TV series with his parents. Khalil studied at Professional Children’s School, before moving on to Hunter College High School, eventually switching to Foothill High School, from which he matriculated in 1983. Khalil was urged by his parents to continue his education, so he thus enrolled at New York University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in film in 1987.
He spent the following five years working various jobs, before launching his acting career.
Roles in movies
Khalil made his debut film appearance in 1992, with his portrayal of Raheem in the action crime drama “Juice”, and his following appearance was in “Renaissance Man”, which made him somewhat popular; a couple of Khalil’s following roles were in the 1997 romantic drama “Love Jones”, the biographical sports drama “The Tiger Woods Story”, and the romantic comedy “The Velocity of Gary”, both in 1998.
In 2001, Khalil was cast to star as Patrick, in the popular crime horror “Bones”, directed by Ernest R. Dickerson, and which also starred Snoop Dogg and Pam Grier. It follows Jimmy Bones who was killed two decades earlier, and has now returned as a ghost to avenge his death.
In 2003, Khalil appeared in the movie “How to Get the Man’s Foot Outta Your Ass”, and in 2010, we saw him play Bill in the hit drama “For Colored Girls”, which won 14 of the 31 awards for which it was nominated. The following years saw him appear in various mediocre movies, such as the 2011 crime drama “Paradise Broken”, the 2012 romantic drama “Love Overboard”, and the 2017 action drama “Misguided Behavior”.
In 2020, Khalil starred as Buck, in the romantic comedy drama “Coming to Africa”, written and directed by Anwar Jamison, and which also starred Nana Ama McBrown and David Dontoh. It follows the philanthropist Adrian, who’s having an adventure in Ghana; the movie won four of the seven awards for which it was nominated.
Khalil’s three most recent film roles have been in the 2020 drama “The Millennial”, the 2021 comedy drama “Faceblocked”, and the 2021 short drama “Homegoing”. He’s currently shooting for the upcoming thriller drama “Caged Birds”, and the upcoming romantic comedy drama “The Friend Zone”.
Roles in TV series
Khalil made his debut TV series appearance in 1994, with his portrayal of Hektor, in the episode “The First Time” of the crime drama “Sirens”, and gained recognition in 1996, when cast to play the supporting character Lance Battista in the comedy “Lush Life”. Created by Yvette Lee Bowser and Karyn Parsons, it starred Lori Petty and Fab Filippo, and follows the lives of the artist Lori and her roommate.
The following years saw Khalil make a guest appearance in single episodes of various series, such as the comedy “Suddenly Susan”, the family comedy drama “Sister, Sister”, and the drama “Any Day Now”. Between 2001 and 2008, he played Darnell Wilkes in the popular comedy “Girlfriends”, created by Mara Brock Akil, and which starred Tracee Ellis Ross, Golden Brooks and Persia White. It follows the lives of four women, Joan, Lynn, Maya and Toni, and the series won eight of the 47 awards for which it was nominated, including a Primetime Emmy nomination. In 2009, Khalil appeared in an episode of three series: the musical family comedy “Ruby & the Rockits”, the mystery crime drama “CSI: Miami”, and the fantasy crime drama “Medium”.
His following notable performance was a decade later, when he played Chief Wrysles in five episodes of the 2019 action thriller drama “Bronx SIU”, which follows The Bronx’s Special Investigations Unit solving crimes in New York City; the series won two of the 12 awards for which it was nominated.
Khalil’s most recent TV series role has been his portrayal of Jesse Williams, in the 2021 crime drama “Be Someone”.

In 2009, Khalil was featured in an episode of the comedy show “Black to the Future”, and in 2012, he made a guest appearance in the talk-show “RapFix Live”.

Wife and children
Khalil’s highly secretive when it comes to his love life, and avoids talking about the women (and men) whom he has perhaps been with, however, it’s widely known that he’s today a married man.
Khalil exchanged vows with his other half, Elise Lyon in a private ceremony, attended by only a couple of their closest friends and family members; neither has shared the date of their wedding, but it’s believed that they have been married for more than 15 years now.
Elise is trying to stay away from the media’s attention, but it’s known that she’s an artist, as her paintings can be seen featured in her Instagram pictures.
Elise and Khalil have two children together, named Luka Kain and Noe Jae, whom they are keeping them away from the media’s attention, and haven’t even shared the dates of their birth.
As of September 2021, Khalil’s married to Elise Lyon, and they have two children.
Hobbies and other interests
Khalil’s physically highly active, and has multiple training sessions at the gym every week, however, he prefers to play sports and practice martial arts over being at the gym; he today holds a black belt in hapkido.

He likes to read books in his spare time, and his favorite is “The Warmth of Other Suns” by Isabel Wilkerson.
Khalil has his own favorite actors and actresses, some of whom are Will Smith, Robert De Niro and Kate Winslet, and a couple of his favorite films are “Independence Day”, “I, Robot” and the trilogy “The Godfather”.
He’s passionate about travelling, and his acting career has taken him to various US states, as well as to a couple of European and African countries; Khalil’s dream travel destination is Barcelona in Spain.
