He was raised with his elder brother Mike Jr., in Cooper City, Florida by their father Mike Hosmer, who worked as a firefighter, and mother Ileana Hosmer, who was a nurse. He started playing baseball at a very young age, with his father as his coach. By the time he enrolled into high school, he was a member of several Little League baseball teams that won several championships.

High School Career

Eric attended American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, where he led the team to win a state championship in his sophomore year; the team also entered the top 10 in USA Today’s Super 25 rankings thanks to him. He was also named Florida’s Baseball Player of the Year twice, and won the American Amateur Baseball Congress Connie Mack MVP award. Eric Hosmer initially played in Minor League Baseball before called up to Major League Baseball, where he made his debut in the 2011 season in the match against the Oakland Athletics. From 2013 to 2015, he won three consecutive Gold Glove Awards, playing in the 2015 World Series and leading the Royals to win the title.

In 2017, he appeared in all 162 regular-season games, and finished the season with a career-high .318 batting average with 25 home runs.
