Jennifer Maria Capriati was born on the 29th March 1976, in New York City, USA, and is a former professional tennis player best known to the world for winning three Grand Slam titles, two Australian Opens and one French Open finals. She was also the No. 1 tennis player on the WTA list in October 2001. Her career started in 1990 and ended in 2004.

Jennifer is the daughter of Italian parents, Denise and her husband Stefano Capriati. She grew up in New York City, and since she was a young girl, Jennifer had been holding a tennis racket. Her professional career began when she was only 13, but a year before she won the Junior Orange Bowl in 12- and the 14-year categories. In her first year on tour, Jennifer reached finals in two consecutive events, in Boca Raton, United States, where she was defeated by Gabriele Sabatini, and Hitlon Head, United States, where she lost to Martina Navratilova. However, her fisrt victory came the same year in Puerto Rico, United States, where she defeated Zina Garrison in three sets. After that, she won 13 more singles titles, at such events as Toronto, Canada in 1991, Sydney, Australia in 1993, Strasbourg, France in 1999, Charleston, United States in 2001, and New Haven, United States in 2003. These wins included the Australian Open titles in 2001 and 2002 and the French Open in 2001; in Australia she beat Martina Hingis on both occasions, and in France, her opponent was Kim Clijsters.
In addition to the above, Jennifer won the singles gold medal in the Barcelona Summer Olympic Games in 1992.

However, her career came to an end in 2004; after battling several injuries, she eventually decided to retire at the season`s end, although still finishing as a top 10 player.
