How rich is Jim Carrey’s ex wife Melissa Womer? Age, Biography

Who is Melissa Womer?

Melissa Wormer was born in Kansas, USA, on 8 July 1960 – her zodiac sign is Cancer, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress and a producer, but perhaps known best for being the ex-wife of the famous actor/comedian Jim Carrey.

Early life and education

Melissa grew up in rural Kansas alongside her two siblings. Their father worked as a car mechanic, while their mother was a housewife. After matriculating from a local high school, Melissa attended the University of Kansas, Lawrence. During her time there, she took up several jobs to sustain her studies, including writing jokes for a morning radio show.

Following her graduation in 1982, Melissa moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Career as an actress and producer

Melissa made her acting debut at the age of 15, when she appeared in an episode of the award-winning mystery crime drama “Petrocelli”, about a Harvard-educated lawyer who gives up on his big city life to practice law in a small town in the American Southwest.

Soon after moving to Los Angeles, Melissa found a job as a cocktail waitress at the Comedy Store at Sunset Boulevard. After working there for a few years, she eventually got a chance to showcase her talents during an open mic comedy night, and soon became very popular among Comedy Store guests.

In 1997, Melissa was the executive producer of the comedy movie “Real Stories of the Donut Men”, which was a spoof of the popular TV series “Cops”.

Written and directed by Beeaje Quick it starred Corbin Timbrook, Anna Bocci and G. Larry Butler, and was named the Best Comedy Feature at the 1998 Long Island Film Festival

Melissa made her big screen debut in 1999, when she played the role of a waitress in the biographical comedy drama about the late comedian Andy Kaufman, entitled “Man on the Moon”. The film was directed by Miloš Forman, and starred Jim Carrey, Danny DeVito and Courtney Love. Although the film ended a string of Jim Carrey films which had very successful opening weekends, and earned only $47 million against an $82 million budget, Jim Carrey’s performance was unanimously praised by the critics, and the movie won a Golden Globe.

In 2004, Melissa produced the two pilot episodes of “The Yesterday Show with John Kerwin”, however, the show was discontinued.

After that, Melissa went on a long break from both acting and producing, to focus on her motherhood, until in 2021, when she had a voiceover role in the audio drama “The Rise of King Asilas”, based on the eponymous novel by J. V. Torres.

Love life and marriage with Jim Carrey

Melissa and Jim first met in 1985, while she was working at the Comedy Store. At the time, Melissa reportedly held two jobs, while Jim did stand-up comedy for ‘$25 a night’.

Melissa noticed Jim when she was performing there, and has said that she immediately thought that he had the talent to become famous.

The two soon started dating, and after two years they tied the knot on 28 March 1987, at a hotel in Santa Monica, California. At the time of their wedding, Melissa was already pregnant with their first child, Jane, born on 6 September 1987.

Unfortunately, their marriage wasn’t without issues, as Jim’s mental health problems put a toll on their relationship. Melissa described him as an ‘extremely depressed person’, and has claimed that she would console him every night.

As Jim finally reached success as an actor in the 1990’s, his rise to stardom dealt yet another blow to his marriage with Melissa. She claimed that he became unable to handle his old home life, and even reportedly said ‘You must come home and put your feet back on the ground and take your garbage out like everyone else, or I can’t be married to you.’ In November 1994, he filed for a divorce which was finalized in 1995.

In the interviews she gave after the divorce, Melissa revealed that she felt like Jim wanted to enjoy his newfound fame from the perspective of a single man, and that she often felt that he loathed her. Jim later apologized for his behavior to his now ex-wife, while acknowledging that he is a difficult person to live with.

After her marriage with Jim Carrey ended, Melissa kept a low profile and hasn’t been in any relationships that the public knows of. She currently appears to be single, and hasn’t been married or even engaged for a second time.

Their daughter Jane is a musician, and has previously competed in “American Idol”. In 2014, her song “Sticky Situation” was featured on the soundtrack to her father’s movie “Dumb and Dumber To”.

The final settlement was $3 million, with an additional $25,000 per month in child support.

Jim Carrey

He’s an actor, comedian and an author, perhaps known best for starring in movies such as “The Mask”, “Dumb & Dumber” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”.

Jim discovered his comedic talent at an early age. When he was eight years old, he began making faces in front of a mirror, and started doing impressions of people he saw on TV. At the age of 10 he even wrote a letter to Carol Burnett of “The Carol Burnett Show”, asking to become a cast member of her show. He had a rough upbringing, as his family struggled financially all through his childhood years, and they even became homeless at one point. Their situation improved once Jim’s father found a job at a Titan Wheels factory, and young Jim was able to enroll at a local high school.

However, he ended up dropping out a few days before his 16th birthday, and started performing as a stand-up comedian, while working as a janitor at a factory.

In early 1983, Jim moved to Los Angeles to pursue a full-time career as a comedian.

After performing semi-successfully in local bars for several years, Jim landed his breakthrough role in 1990 in the popular sketch comedy series “In Living Color”. Following his success in the show, he landed roles in numerous big budget Hollywood movies, including “The Mask” (1994), “Liar Liar” (1997) and “Batman Forever” (1995).

In the 2000s, he gained further recognition for his portrayal of Grinch in the Christmas comedy “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000), as well as for his roles in “Bruce Almighty” (2003), “Yes Man” (2008) and “A Christmas Carol” (2009).

Although Jim is known best for playing comedic roles, he has also found success in dramatic roles, some of which include leading roles in “The Truman Show”, “Man on the Moon” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, which have all earned him Golden Globes, among other awards and nominations.

More recently, we saw Jim portray the current US president Joe Biden, in six episodes of the comedy sketch show “Saturday Night Live”.

Aside from acting, he has also been working on his career as an author. Jim published his first book in 2013, entitled “How Roland Rolls”, which was rewarded the 2013 Gelett Burgess Children’s Book Award. In 2020, Jim published the novel “Memoirs and Misinformation”, which is partially based on his life.
