Love life and marriage with Jim Carrey
Melissa and Jim first met in 1985, while she was working at the Comedy Store. At the time, Melissa reportedly held two jobs, while Jim did stand-up comedy for ‘$25 a night’.
Melissa noticed Jim when she was performing there, and has said that she immediately thought that he had the talent to become famous.
The two soon started dating, and after two years they tied the knot on 28 March 1987, at a hotel in Santa Monica, California. At the time of their wedding, Melissa was already pregnant with their first child, Jane, born on 6 September 1987.
Unfortunately, their marriage wasn’t without issues, as Jim’s mental health problems put a toll on their relationship. Melissa described him as an ‘extremely depressed person’, and has claimed that she would console him every night.
As Jim finally reached success as an actor in the 1990’s, his rise to stardom dealt yet another blow to his marriage with Melissa. She claimed that he became unable to handle his old home life, and even reportedly said ‘You must come home and put your feet back on the ground and take your garbage out like everyone else, or I can’t be married to you.’ In November 1994, he filed for a divorce which was finalized in 1995.
In the interviews she gave after the divorce, Melissa revealed that she felt like Jim wanted to enjoy his newfound fame from the perspective of a single man, and that she often felt that he loathed her. Jim later apologized for his behavior to his now ex-wife, while acknowledging that he is a difficult person to live with.
After her marriage with Jim Carrey ended, Melissa kept a low profile and hasn’t been in any relationships that the public knows of. She currently appears to be single, and hasn’t been married or even engaged for a second time.
Their daughter Jane is a musician, and has previously competed in “American Idol”. In 2014, her song “Sticky Situation” was featured on the soundtrack to her father’s movie “Dumb and Dumber To”.
How rich is Melissa?
As of September 2021, Melissa’s net worth is estimated at more than $3.5 million. Most of her wealth comes from the divorce settlement with Jim Carrey. Apparently the initial settlement offer was $500,000, and $25,000 per month in additional support, while she demanded between $5 million and $10 million to settle the divorce. The final settlement was $3 million, with an additional $25,000 per month in child support.

He’s an actor, comedian and an author, perhaps known best for starring in movies such as “The Mask”, “Dumb & Dumber” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”.
Jim discovered his comedic talent at an early age. When he was eight years old, he began making faces in front of a mirror, and started doing impressions of people he saw on TV. At the age of 10 he even wrote a letter to Carol Burnett of “The Carol Burnett Show”, asking to become a cast member of her show. He had a rough upbringing, as his family struggled financially all through his childhood years, and they even became homeless at one point. Their situation improved once Jim’s father found a job at a Titan Wheels factory, and young Jim was able to enroll at a local high school.
However, he ended up dropping out a few days before his 16th birthday, and started performing as a stand-up comedian, while working as a janitor at a factory.
In early 1983, Jim moved to Los Angeles to pursue a full-time career as a comedian.
After performing semi-successfully in local bars for several years, Jim landed his breakthrough role in 1990 in the popular sketch comedy series “In Living Color”. Following his success in the show, he landed roles in numerous big budget Hollywood movies, including “The Mask” (1994), “Liar Liar” (1997) and “Batman Forever” (1995).
