Early life, family, and education

Born Kathy Grace Ambush under the zodiac sign of Gemini on 6 June 1950, she’s aged 72 as of March 2023. She is a native of Worchester, Massachusetts USA, holds American nationality, and comes from a family of African-American descent.

Most of her life, Kathy’s spent in her hometown where she was raised by her parents, Shigao Gladys Sato and Nelson William Ambush. Kathy had four siblings, namely June, Stephen, Karen, and Benjamin. Their mother died in 1984, and their father remarried, so from his second marriage, they have two half-siblings, Sydney and Valerie.

Later, she was a director at Milton Academy’s Advanced Studies program, in Milton, Massachusetts. Kathy also volunteered at Global Internet Entrepreneur Company, and for years she served as a community relations manager at BankBoston, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Marriage with Clarence Thomas

Kathy met her future husband, Clarence through a mutual friend in 1969, when both were college students, although Clarence was studying at the College of Holy Cross. After just a week of knowing each other, Clarence and Kathy began dating for more than two years when Clarence proposed to her.

The two married on 5 June 1971, a day before Kathy’s 21st birthday. The wedding ceremony was held at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Kathy’s hometown. Soon afterwards, the couple moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where Clarence attended a law school.

Kathy followed her husband and supported his dream. On 15 February 1973, Kathy gave birth to their son Jamal Adeen Thomas. Kathy’s and Clarence’s marriage was far away from a romantic, love story – Clarence began drinking, so they had emotional as well as financial struggles. Clarence’s drinking became worse, and many assume that his drinking problem was the reason for their separation in 1981, and their divorce was finalized in 1984. Clarence won sole custody over their son.

Clarence Thomas was born under the zodiac sign of Cancer on 23 June 1948, in Pin Point, Georgia; he comes from an African-American family whose ancestors were slaves. His father, MC Thomas, was a farmer, while his mother, Leola was a housewife – Clarence has two siblings. Their father left them when Clarence was a toddler, and although their mother worked hard to provide for them after a fire left them homeless, Clarence and his younger brother were sent to live with their maternal grandparents in Savannah, Georgia.

When it comes to Clarence’s educational background, he attended Saint Pius X High School, then after two years transferred to Saint John Vianney’s Minor Seminary on the Isle of Hope, in Chatham County, Georgia. Upon matriculating in 1966, Clarence briefly attended Conception Seminary College before he enrolled at the College of the Holy Cross, from which graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in English literature in 1970.

As mentioned, he continued his education and attended Yale Law School, graduating with a Juris Doctor degree in 1974. Although he applied for work in numerous law firms, he was rejected every time. Clarence then studied for the Missouri bar at the Saint Louis University School of Law, and was admitted on 13 September 1974.

He worked as an assistant attorney general of Missouri under the state Attorney General from 1974 through 1977, before he moved to Washington DC where he worked as a legislative assistant for the Senate Commerce Committee from 1979 to 1981.

From 1982 through 1990, Clarence served as assistant secretary of education for the Office for Civil Rights in the US Department of Education. On 1 July 1991, Clarence began serving as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, and is currently serving in this position.

He is the second African-American to serve on the Court and is today its longest-serving member, known as the Court’s most conservative member.

When it comes to his personal life, after his divorce from Kathy, Clarence married Virginia Lamp in 1987, who is an attorney and conservative activist. Virginia served as a policy analyst for Representative Dick Armey when he was the chairman of the House Republican Conference.

Clarence and Virginia didn’t have children together, but besides Kathy’s and Clarence’s son, Jamal Adeen, they raised Clarence’s nephew, Mark Martin. They took the boy in 1997 since he was living with his mother in public housing.
