Joseph Francis ‘Joe’ Buck was born on 25 April 1969 under the zodiac sign of Taurus, in St. Petersburg, Florida USA. He was raised in the St. Louis area by his father, Jack Buck, a well-known sportscaster, and his mother, Carole Lintzenich.
He has seven siblings, sisters Christine, Beverly, Betsy, Bonnie and Julie, and two brothers Jack Buck Jr. and Dan. He went to St. Louis Country Day School, and upon matriculation enrolled in Indiana University Bloomington, from which he graduated with a BA degree in English and a minor in Telecommunications in 1991.
Career Beginnings
Joe Buck started his professional career as a broadcaster in 1989 while still at college, where he announced play-by-play for a minor league affiliate of the Cardinals, called Louisville Redbirds. During the same year, he also reported on the Triple-A All-Star Game for ESPN. Two years later, he took a reporting job at the CBS-affiliated station KMOV, and also started broadcasting for KMOX Radio and KPLR-TV.
In the 1992-1993 season, he called play-by-play for University of Missouri basketball broadcasts, and continued to announce for the Cardinals until 2007, working alongside his father on KMOX, and later on the FSN Midwest network.
Rise to Fame on Fox Sports
In 1994, Joe Bock was hired to work for Fox, and at the age of 25 he called a regular slate of National Football League (NFL) games which made him the youngest man ever to do that on network television. In 1996, he became the play-by-play voice for Major League Baseball (MLB), working with Tim McCraver, and that same year, he became he became the youngest play-by-play voice to do a national broadcast for a World Series.
Since then, he’s served in the position for World Series except in 1997 and 1999 – he’s called 21 All-Star Games, 13 American League Championship Series, and 12 National League Championship Series for Fox MLB.
