David Gilliland Net Worth $22 Million
David is the son of former driver Butch Gilliland, who at the time was Winston West champion on the west coast. David joined his father’s team in 1996, and little by little started driving himself, and in 1999 he won the track championship at Perris Auto Speedway. In 2000 he started to drive in the AutoZone West Series, though only a few races. Then in 2003 he made his breakthrough, when he won five races in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series driving the No. 1 Chevrolet for the Centrifugal Technologies. He finished the season as the sixth best driver.
After that success, he decided to compete full time in the particular division, driving the No. 88 Chevrolet for MRG Motorsports. Also, he announced that he would compete in NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series. That year, he was named NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series Rookie of the Year.
Back in 2003 he also began his career in the National series, but had little success until 2005, when he was recruited by Clay Andrews Racing, and in 2006 had his only win in the series, at the Meijer 300 Kentucky. He competed until 2010 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and competed in 56 races, failing to win another race, but had three to ten finishes, which also added to his wealth.
In 2006 he started his career in the Monster Cup Energy Series, driving No. 72 Dodge for CJM Racing, and then in 2007 joined Robert Yates Racing. He drove for several teams, including Robby Gordon Motorsports, and Joe Gibbs Racing until 2010, when he joined front Row Motorsports, for which he currently drives. Unfortunately, David has had little success overall; he has raced in 332 events over 11 seasons, but failed to win a race, though he has had eight top ten finishes, and three pole positions. While being a part of Robert Yates Racing, David secured pole position at the Daytona 500 in 2007, and finished eighth. Also, in 2011 he was on the podium as he finished third, while driving for Front Row Motorsports.
David also tried his luck in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and in three years he raced in 10 events, finishing in top ten three times, without any other major success.
Nowadays, aside from racing, David owns a car in the K&N Pro Series East.
Regarding his personal life, David is married to Michelle, with whom he has two children, including a son Todd who is also a successful race car driver, winning an event in the K&N Pro Series West, making him third in the family to register such an achievement, since his father – and grandfather Butch – won at least one race in the series.
