Jordan was raised in Dallas alongside his brother Jeremy, by their mother Julie Poyer, and their stepfather Fa’alaeo Poyer; Jordan hasn’t met his biological father Louis Dunbar, who has been in and out of jail in the last two decades.
He became interested in football, basketball and baseball while attending Astoria High School; Jordan won the baseball state championship as a freshman, and a football state championship as a senior. Upon matriculating in 2009, he was drafted into Major League Baseball (MLB) by the Florida Marlins.
