She worked a number of jobs in the following a couple of years, including being a nightclub dancer, prior to deciding to pursue music together with Yung Miami.
City Girls and Jatavia’s incarceration
Jatavia and Yung Miami chose City Girls as their duo’s name, because they were raised in two of the roughest Miami’s neighborhoods: Jatavia in Liberty City, and Yung Miami in Opa-locka.
Their debut song “Fuck Dat Nigga” was released in 2017, and was about their former boyfriends who failed to give them money when they asked for it; the duo promoted the single on their social media accounts, while they also paid DJs to play it at clubs. The song eventually became popular, and its official music video was released in January 2018, also featuring American rapper Katrina Laverne Taylor aka Trina; the song was also featured on Quality Control’s 2018 album “Control the Streets, Volume 1.”

Jatavia was officially released from prison on 7 March 2020.
They recorded their second album “City on Lock” in the first half of 2020, but it was leaked in its entirety on the internet on 19 June; the girls then officially released the album at midnight, featuring Lil Baby, Lil Durk and Doja Cat. Their 2021 single “Twerkulator” became a hit on the internet, mostly because the 20 year old TikToker Layla Muhammad choreographed a dance for it.
