Willie went to Edison High School, located in Huntington Beach, California, where he showed off his talents in both choir and Madrigal ensemble.

From an early age, Willie was thrown into the entertainment industry; before he turned 10, he had made appearances in such productions as “Gunsmoke”, “Adam-12”, “The Courtship of Eddie`s Father”, and continued with roles in films “Unwed Father” (1974), and “Doctor Dan”, the same year. In 1974, Willie got the part of playing 12 year-old Benjamin Franklin in the TV mini-series “The Lives of Benjamin Franklin” (1974-1975). In 1975 he appeared in the film “The Family Nobody Wanted” (1975), starring Shirley Jones, and made appearances in several TV series, including, “Swiss Family Robinson” (1975-1976) and “Family” (1976-1977), before he got his breakthrough role as Tommy Bradford in “Eight Is Enough” (1977-1981). Elias Koteas was born to Greek Canadian parents; his father was a mechanic for Canadian National Railway, while his mother designed and made hats, so Koteas is fluent in Greek and French. Then in 1990 came his big break and first starring role, that of vigilante Casey Jones in the live action adaptation of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, which was a huge commercial success, and put Koteas on the map. He reprised this role three years later, in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III” (1993), though the film wasn’t as successful as the first one.

Over the course of his career, Koteas has appeared in an equal share of blockbusters, and smaller, independent films. In 1991, he started his long-term cooperation with director Atom Egoyan, starring in his films “The Adjuster” (1991), “Exotica” (1994), and “Ararat” (2002). He also played the lead role of police detective Thomas Dagget in the fantasy horror film “The Prophecy”, along with Christopher Walken, Virginia Madsen, and Viggo Mortensen. He also chilled audiences worldwide with his turn as a psychopathic, demon-possessed murderer in the supernatural detective thriller film “Fallen” (1998), starring Denzel Washington.

The mainstream audiences, however, know him best from his roles in Oscar contenders and critically acclaimed features such as the war epic “Thin Red Line” (1998), and romantic fantasy drama film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (2008). In 2010, Koteas joined the cast of Martin Scorcese’s psychological thriller, “Shutter Island”, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, and Michelle Williams, boosting his net worth again.
