Education and early life

Veronica was raised in Lagos, Nigeria by her mother and father about whom she hasn’t talked in public; it’s believed that they’ve both passed away, but this hasn’t been addressed by Veronica. She hasn’t disclosed whether or not she has siblings, but her fans believe that she grew up alongside two brothers.

Veronica studied at a local high school in Lagos and was passionate about sports during her time there; she excelled as a high jumper, while she was also into running track and playing soccer. It’s believed that she matriculated sometime in the second half of the 1980s, and that she then enrolled at college, but had to drop out because she became pregnant with her first child.

Veronica and her husband Charles moved to Greece in 1991.

Veronica had problems finding work in Greece as she and her husband had no work permits, and their children eventually began helping out by selling sunglasses, handbags and watches in the street; she was able to find a job as a babysitter, and worked until her son Giannis succeeded as a basketball player.

Love life and marriage

Veronica was married to Charles Antetokounmpo, the late Giannis’ father; he was a soccer player while he and Veronica still lived in Nigeria, and it’s widely believed that they met at high school.

She gave birth to their first son Francis on 20 October 1988, but Veronica and Giannis soon moved to Greece and left the boy in the care of his grandparents. Veronica gave birth to their four other sons in Athens, Greece – Giannis isn’t the only one who’s succeeded in sports, as Athanasios Rotimi ‘Thanasis’ Antetokounmpo is today also a professional basketball player, currently playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Milwaukee Bucks.

There are no other men whom Veronica’s perhaps been with, that we know about; she was married to Charles Antetokounmpo until he died from a heart attack aged 54, and they had five sons together.

Who is her son Giannis?

Greek-Nigerian professional basketball player Giannis Sina Ugo Antetokounmpo was born under the zodiac sign Sagittarius on 6 December 1994 in Athens, Greece. He’s been nicknamed ‘Greek Freak’ for his strength, speed and size, and is rated one of the best players of all time; he’s today playing for the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA, together with his brother Thanasis.

It was in 2007, aged 13 that Giannis began playing basketball in Athens; he’s revealed that he had a hard time fitting in because of his parents’ heritage. During the first 18 years of his life, Giannis was ‘stateless’ because of Greek laws, and was unable to leave the country as he had no Greek or Nigerian papers; it was on 9 May 2013 that he became a Greek citizen, while he also received Nigerian papers in 2015.

Giannis’ professional career in the NBA began when he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks as the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Initially, he was a raw talent with incredible physical attributes, but lacked the skills that are associated with experienced NBA players, however, Giannis was able to quickly adapt to the demands of the league, and underwent significant development under the guidance of the Bucks’ coaching staff.

Standing at 6ft 11ins (2.1m) with an exceptional wingspan, Giannis can play multiple positions, making him a nightmare for his opponents.

His career reached new heights during the 2018-2019 NBA season, when he was named the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), solidifying his status as one of the NBA’s elite players.
