Who is Jonah Bobo?

Ezra Jonah Bobo was born on Roosevelt Island, New York City USA, on 24 January 1997 – his zodiac sign is Aquarius, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor and musician, who has appeared in close to 20 movies and TV series, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of the main character Danny in the 2005 action adventure comedy movie “Zathura: A Space Adventure”. It was directed by Jon Favreau, also starred Josh Hutcherson and Dax Shepard, and follows two brothers who are playing a strange board game, which has teleported their house into space; the movie won two of the five awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Jonah was raised in New York City alongside his sister Georgia Bobo, by their mother Denise Raimi who was a personal trainer, and their father Scott Bobo who was a software developer; Scott is of Syrian-Jewish and Egyptian-Jewish descent, while Denise has Ashkenazi-Jewish ancestryt. Jonah’s great-grandmother  – Salha ‘Mama’ Bobo was an American philanthropist and businesswoman, who died in 2001, aged 94.

Jonah was believed to be a child genius, as he’d apparently learned to read before turning three. He became interested in acting at a very early age, and his parents thus enrolled him at a school for the performing arts, and started taking him to auditions in New York City and Los Angeles, California.

He was seven years old when he launched his career, with his portrayal of Sam Zaidman in the comedy movie “The Best Thief in the World”. It follows the young boy Izzy who has started breaking into people’s apartments as a way to attract his parents’ attention; the movie was nominated for a Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize.

Jonah studied at a local high school, from which he matriculated in 2015.

Roles in movies

Jonah played Zach Lair in the 2004 drama “Around the Bend”, written and directed by Jordan Roberts, and which starred Michael Caine, Christopher Walken and Josh Lucas.

It follows a recently divorced man who has been persuaded by his son and grandfather to embark on a road trip with them to try and reconcile with his father; the movie won four of the seven awards for which it was nominated.

A couple of Jonah’s following roles were in the comedy “Strangers with Candy”, the  kids comedy “The Backyardigans: The Snow Fort” both in 2005, and the 2006 animated adventure comedy “The Fox and the Hound 2” (voice role).

The year 2008 saw him portray Young Victor in the hit comedy drama “Choke”, written and directed by Clark Gregg, and which starred Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston and Kelly Macdonald. It follows a sex addict who pretends to be choking to death so that people would give him money after they save him, and after he tells them his sad life story; the film won two of the nine awards for which it was nominated.

The same year Jonah voiced Austin in the animated adventure comedy “The Backyardigans: Mighty Match-Up!”, and his two following roles were in the critically acclaimed 2011 romantic comedy drama “Crazy, Stupid Love”, and the 2012 thriller drama “Disconnect”, and his final role before disappearing from the film industry, was in the 2014 short romantic drama “To Instigate Blue”.

 Roles in TV series

In 2009, Jonah appeared in the episode “Jackie Jormp-Jomp” of the comedy “30 Rock”, and the episode “No Man Is an Island” of the comedy drama “Royal Pains”.

He has only one other TV series credit – between 2004 and 2013, Jonah voiced one of the lead characters, Austin, in the popular animated adventure comedy “The Backyardigans”.

It was created by Janice Burgess and Irene Sherman, also starred LaShawn Jefferies and Sean Curley, and follows five friends who are spending most of their days playing together in their shared backyard; the series won four of the 20 awards for which it was nominated.

Although Jonah hasn’t appeared in any movies or TV series in the past eight years, he hasn’t officially retired from acting.

Where is he today?

Jonah disappeared from the film industry in 2014, and hasn’t given any interviews since then, nor been seen attending any red carpet events.

Most of his fans believe that he focused on his education and enrolled at college, from which he graduated in 2019, while some claim that he also graduated with a Master’s degree in 2021, however, none of this has been confirmed.

Some believe that Jonah has turned to music, as it’s known that he composed the music for the 2019 short comedy film “The Pickle Aisle”; he’s apparently recently released his debut album “Newgrass Suite”.

Love life and girlfriend

Jonah hasn’t shared any details concerning his love life with the public, but some of his fans believe that they’ve seen him spending time with his girlfriend in New York City. He has apparently cut his long hair short, but still pretty much resembles his younger self; he and his girlfriend were spotted walking around the city hand in hand, but no evidence has been provided to support these fans’ claims.

There are also some who believe that he’s even married today, and might have started a family; another fan’s claim has it that Jonah was seen with his wife and daughter, but this hasn’t been confirmed either.

As of February 2022, Jonah seems to be single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Jonah has certainly changed since he left the film industry, but if the Instagram account ‘jonah.bobo’ is indeed his, then he is quite fond of the network, and apparently enjoys the attention which he’s receiving from his close to 10,000 followers. He’s uploaded more than 100 pictures onto it, the majority of which have been taken during his everyday life, with most featuring him playing the guitar and singing.

He loves spending his spare time in nature, especially in New York City’s Central Park.

Jonah is a lover of animals, and has a pet dog.

He likes to watch movies late at night, and his favorite actor and actress are Jim Carrey and Anne Hathaway, while a couple of his favorite films include “Bruce Almighty”, “Liar Liar” and “One Day”.

Jonah’s age is 25. He has short brown hair and brown eyes, his height is 5ft 8ins (1.75m) and he weighs around 155lbs (70kgs).
