Relationship with Maurizio Gucci
Paola Franchi and Maurizio Gucci had known each other for their whole lives, as they were childhood friends. She even attended his wedding to Patrizia Reggiani in 1972. Following her split from Giorgio and Maurizio’s split from Patrizia, the two became romantically involved in 1990.
They moved in together in a lavish apartment in Corso Venezia, Milan. After Maurizio’s divorce from Patrizia was made official in 1994, they started planning to exchange their wedding vows at his Saint Moritz estate in Switzerland. However, their plans weren’t fulfilled, because Maurizio was murdered by a hired hitman hired by his ex-wife Patricia, outside of his office on 27 March 1995.
The following day, Patrizia sent an eviction order to Paola to move out of the apartment in which she lived with Maurizio. Patrizia then moved in to live there with her two daughters until 1997 when she was convicted of murder, and sentenced to 29 years in jail.

In 2010, Paola published her autobiographical book entitled “L’amore Spezzato”, also known under the English title “The Broken Love”, in which she reveals all the details about her relationship with Maurizio.
In 2021, she was portrayed by French actress Camille Cottin in the highly popular biographical crime drama film “House Of Gucci”, which follows the relationship between Maurizio, played by Adam Driver, and Patrizia, portrayed by Lady Gaga. The film became a box office success, since it grossed over $156 million on a $75 million budget, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Make-up and Hairstyling.
