While at the University, Valente was a valued member of the theater department and after graduation, the department head, Marian Monta gave him $2,000 to help him settle in Los Angeles before his career took off.
Valente made his acting debut in 1988 as Chuey in the romantic drama film “Salsa”, starring Draco Rosa, Rodney Harvey, and Magali Alvarado. He continued his career with minor roles in such projects as the Primetime Emmy Award-winning comedy-drama series “The Golden Girls” (1988), then the award-nominated crime-drama film “Blood In, Blood Out” (1993), and in the romantic drama film “Mr. Jones”, with Richard Gere and Lena Olin in the lead roles.
