After the end of his studies, Shaun worked as a civics teacher in high school for a year, and then joined Atlanta’s juvenile justice system.

He would leave the teaching business behind and join Total Grace Christian Center in DeKalb County, Georgia as a pastor until he founded a church in Atlanta called Courageous Church in 2008. His church lasted four years only, as he resigned citing personal stress and disillusionment as the main reasons why he decided to leave.

He is best known as a journalist and activist, and has written about his growing up in Kentucky, and his struggle as a biracial person. His main work is about the Black Lives Matter movement, and the events that followed after Michael Brown Jr. was shot dead by police officer Darren Wilson.

Michael was an 18-year-old black man, and Shaun wrote that his death didn’t have to happen as Wilson’s life was not in danger.

He has since reported on various events across the state that involve black people, and he now serves as a writer-in-residence at Harvard Law School’s Fair Punishment Project, and is a contributor to The Intercept and the Appeal.
