Born Daniel Jonathan Stevens on 10 October 1982, in Croydon, Sussex England, he was adopted right at birth by parents who were both teachers. He spent his childhood in Wales and southeast England, and later received a scholarship at the independent Tonbridge School in Kent. While there, he auditioned for the lead role in “Macbeth”, and then started using summer breaks to train his acting skills at the National Youth Theatre in London.
