Rima Horton is an English lecturer known for working with the Labour Party as a councilor on the Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council.

During her teenage years, Rima became interested in acting, and while in high school she performed in theatre and joined several amateur groups, including the Brook Drama Club. At just 15 years old, she went to Paris with the drama club, showcasing her acting and directing talents.

Career

Although talented, Rima never considered acting as a full-time job. Instead, she won election as a Labour Party councilor on the Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council in 1986.

She was Chief Whip and spokesperson on education during her tenure that lasted until May 2006, when she lost her position due to a national shift, explained in a swing against the Labour Party, which was in government nationally for nine years.

She also ran as a Labour Party candidate for Parliament, but she lost to the Conservative candidate on two occasions, after which she didn’t run again.

Rima and Alan met when she was 18 and he was 19 years old, at Chelsea College of Arts as members of two theatre groups. The couple started living together in 1977, and were inseparable until he died in 2016. Rima and Alan didn’tmarry until 2012, and even then only came forward with the information three years later, when he was already diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. They didn’t have children.

Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was born on 21 February 1946, in London, England, the son of Margaret Doreen Rose and Bernard William Rickman, a Second World War aircraft fitter, house painter, and decorator.

He had three siblings, brothers David and Michael and a sister named Sheila. His father passed away when Alan was eight years old, and with his siblings and mother moved to an Acton estate to the west of Wormwood Scrubs Prison. His mother had a tough time raising four children, and working for the Post Office.

He attended Latymer Upper School, where he became interested in acting, then after matriculating, he enrolled at Chelsea College of Art and Design, and continued his education at the Royal College of Art from 1968 to 1970.

After a short stint as a co-owner of a graphic design studio called Graphiti with a few of his friends, he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA),and after completing his education there, Alan honed his acting skills with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, in the plays “Sherlock Holmes”, and “The Devil is an Ass”, before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company and appearing in such plays as “Love’s Labour’s Lost”, “The Tempest”, and “Captain Swing” among others.
