Who is Hank Williams Jr?
American singer-songwriter and musician Randall Hank Williams Jr. was born in Shreveport, Louisiana USA. on 26 May 1949, so Gemini’s his zodiac sign. He was initially mostly known for being the son of the late famous American singer-songwriter Hiram ‘Hank’ Williams, but has since become popular thanks to his blend of rock ‘n’ roll, blues and country music, as well as for his playing of various instruments, including guitar, saxophone and banjo, amongst nine others.
Hank was raised in Shreveport as an only child, by his father Hiram and mother Audrey Mae Sheppard Williams, who was also an American musician; after Hiram’s death on 1 January 1953, Hank was raised solely by his mother. Many famous singers and musicians were friends of the Williams family and would often visit, which was how Hank fell in love with music; some of his main influences were Jerry Lee Lewis, Earl Scruggs and Johnny Cash- he was only eight when he performed on the stage for the first time, singing some of his father’s songs.

Hank studied at John Overton High School, and upon matriculating in 1967, focused on music rather than to pursue a college degree.
Hank recorded his first song, a cover of his father’s “Long Gone Lonesome Blues” in 1964, but it was only in the ’70s that he found his own music path, releasing his original songs “The New South” and “One Night Stands” in 1977.
He spent a lot of his time in the ‘80s recording music at the studio, and Hank released two albums nearly every year during the decade, with some of the most popular amongst these having been the 1983 “Strong Stuff”, the 1983 “Man of Steel”, and the 1984 “Major Moves”. A total of 21 albums were released by Hank from 1979 through 1992, and all of these were certified at least gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Hank eventually also ventured into acting, lending his voice to the character Injun Joe in the 2000 animated musical comedy movie “Tom Sawyer”.
Following the 9/11 events, he released his hit single “A Country Boy Can Survive”, later renamed to “America Can Survive”. Hank’s next single “Red, White & Pink-Slip Blues” was released in April 2009, and peaked at #43 on the American country charts; it was featured on his 51st studio album “127 Rose Avenue”, which came out on 16 June 2009.
Hank’s been a Republican since the launch of his career, and in November 2008 revealed that he was considering running for US Senator for Tennessee.
