Tamera Young was born on the 30th October 1986, in Wilmington, North Carolina USA, and is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the Atlanta Dream in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Aside from WNBA, she has also played for teams in Brazil, Latvia and Turkey among other countries that have a women’s basketball league.

Tamera is the daughter of Greg Young, and his wife Lynda Nichols who later remarried John Brown, who adopted Tamera. She is the youngest of four and has a brother and two sisters. After high school, she enrolled at James Madison University, and played basketball for the women’s team in the Colonial Athletic Association, and posted a number of records, such all-time scoring record. She received a number of prestigious awards including the CAA Player of the Year in 2008, and three times First-team All-CAA from 2006 until 2008.

She declared for the 2008 WNBA Draft, and was chosen eighth overall by the Atlanta Dream, which that year was an expansion franchise. In her first season, Tamera started 15 games and played in 33 overall, contributing with an average of 7.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. She stayed in Atlanta until the early 2009 season, when she was sent to the Chicago Sky in exchange for Armintie Price.

Tamera stayed in Chicago until the most recent season, but didn’t stand out among other players, averaging only 6.8 points per game. She returned to the Atlanta Dream for the 2017 season, and so far has played in 11 games, with only one start.

During the WNBA offseason, Tamera played overseas quite often; in 2008-2009 she played for Cesis of the Latvian league, while for the 2009-2010 season she played for Pankup in Turkey. The following year she spent several months in France, playing for Basket Landus, while in 2012 she played for the Maccabi Ashdod in Israel, helping win the Israeli Cup and was the MVP of the tournament. Two years later she played for América de Recife of the Brazilian championship. All her off-season engagements in other countries have been both successful as a player, and also contributed to her wealth.
