Shion is an American Primetime Emmy Award-nominated television writer, animator, showrunner, producer and storyboard artist, perhaps best known to the world as the creator of the Netflix TV series “Inside Job” (2021-2022).

Shion Elena Takeuchi was born on 5 September 1988, in Northborough, Massachusetts, USA. She is the daughter of a technology company executive, and a former translator, however, Shion hasn’t revealed her parents’ names. Moreover, there is no information about whether she has any siblings or not.

After her internship was over, she remained with Cartoon Network, working as a writer and storyboard artist on the animated action-adventure series “Regular Show”, which follows the daily surreal adventures of a blue jay and a raccoon who work as groundkeepers at the local park. The series’ main stars are J.G. Quintel and William Salyers.

After six episodes, she joined the team behind the animated film “Monsters University”, as a story artist.

From 2014 to 2016, Shion worked on the Primetime Emmy Award-winning TV animated action-adventure series “Gravity Falls” as a co-writer. However, she worked only on four episodes during this time.

Concurrently,in 2015, she teamed up with Sean Szeles to create the animated sitcom “Long Live the Royals”, about members of a fictional British Royal Family as they celebrate the annual Yule Hare Festival. The series lasted for four episodes.

Her next project was the computer-animated film “Inside Out”, produced by Pixar Animation Studios. She was one of the story artists, while the main screenwriters were Pete Docter, Meg LeFauve, and Josh Cooley. The film follows the inner emotions, Joy, Fear, Disgust, Anger, and Sadness of a young girl, as they conflict on how to best lead her life in a new city as she moves from the Midwest to San Francisco. The film starred Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, and Lewis Black.

In 2016, she joined the team behind the animated sitcom “We Bare Bears”, which follows three bear brothers, Grizzly, Panda and Ice Bear, as they try to integrate into the human world in the San Francisco Bay Area. She worked on three episodes before she went on to work on another animated series.

Gradually, Shion progressed as a writer and was hired on for more popular projects. One such happened in 2018 when she was selected as the staff writer and story writer on the Amazon Prime Video animated series “Lost in Oz”. This time around, we witness the new take on the popular “Wizard of Oz” story, in which Glinda helps Dorothy to get back to Kansas. The series aired for two years and 26 episodes, with Ashley Boettcher as the lead star.

Next, in 2018 she was selected as one of the writers on the Netflix animated action-adventure series “Disenchantment”, about Princess Bean who is about to marry Prince Merkimer in an arranged marriage. However, she meets the demon Luci, and an elf named Elfo, and things start getting a bit wild.

Shion contributed only to the first season of the animated series, as she left the show to focus on other interests, one of which was her own show. In 2018 Netflix signed a multi-year, multi-project deal with Shion.

The following year, the streaming platform announced the production of the adult animated series “Inside Job”. Shion created this science fiction animated sitcom set in a world in which many conspiracy theories are actual real. The series follows a team of secret agents of the American shadow government organization Cognito, Inc. as they try to control the world and keep the conspiracies a secret. The main characters are a reptilian shapeshifter, a human-dolphin hybrid, and a sapient mushroom from hollow Earth. The main stars are Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater, Clark Duke, and Tisha Campbell, among others.

The show premiered on 22 October 2021 and the second season on 18 November 2022. For now, there is no news about the show being renewed for a third season, and fans can only theorize about the release of the next season.
