Who is Scoot McNairy?

Scoot is an award-winning American actor, probably best known to the world as Andrew Kaulder in the film “Monsters” (2010), and as Joe Stafford in the film “Argo” (2012), in addition to numerous other popular roles that he’s secured so far in his career.

Born John Marcus McNairy on 11 November 1977, in Dallas, Texas, USA, he’s the son of Steward Hall McNairy and his wife, Alicia Ann (nee Merchant). He grew up in Dallas, though he often spent time on a family-owned ranch in rural Paris, Texas. Growing up, he became interested in theater and joined after-school programs.

He matriculated from Lake Highlands High School, but McNairy has said that he’s highly dyslexic, and had to attend dyslexia school for four years.

After high school, he moved to Austin, Texas, where he enrolled at the University of Texas, but it’s unknown what he studied, and if he graduated. However, he moved to Los Angeles to study cinematography at a film school, but this didn’t last long as he dropped out and began working in film production, building film sets including doing carpentry.

He entered the film industry slowly, working as an extra until he found steady commercial work, and from 2001 onwards, he began making regular film appearances.

Career Beginnings

Scoot made his acting debut in 2001 in the role of Russell in Alex Holdridge’s film “Wrong Numbers”, co-starring Matt Bearden and Matt Pulliam. Two years later, he appeared in another Holdridge film, “Sexless” as Ryan, and later that year featured in the mystery crime-drama film “Wonderland”, written and directed by James Cox, and starring Val Kilmer, Lisa Kudrow and Kate Bosworth.

The following year, Scoot worked again with Alex Holdridge on the film “In Search of a Midnight Kiss”, while in 2009, he co-starred in the comedy-drama film “Mr. Sandman”, written and directed by Patrick Epino, starring Quaid Al-Nomani and Rudy Ramos.
