Who is Xavier Samuel?

Xavier Samuel was born in Hamilton, Victoria, Australia, on 10 December 1983 – his zodiac sign is Sagittarius, and he holds Australian nationality. He’s an actor with close to 40 credits to his name, perhaps known best for his portrayal of Reginald DeCourcy, one of the lead characters in the 2016 romantic comedy drama “Love & Friendship”. It was written and directed by Whit Stillman, also starred Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny, and follows Lady Susan Vermon who’s decisive in finding her daughter Frederica a husband; the movie won seven of the 60 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Xavier was raised in Adelaide, South Australia alongside his younger brother Benedict and older sister Bridget, by their parents Clifford Samuel and Maree, both of whom were teachers. His brother is today an actor, film writer and producer, while his sister’s a stage manager.

Xavier was studying at Rostrevor College when he became interested in acting, and because of it transferred to Christian Bothers College (high school), at which he appeared in numerous plays, with one of his most notable performances having been in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

Upon matriculating in 2002, Xavier enrolled at Flinders University’s Drama Centre, and the following year saw him make his debut TV series appearance, with his portrayal of Jason in the episode “Jokers to the Right” of the romantic drama “McLeod’s Daughters”.

He then didn’t appear in any movies or TV series until after he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2006.

Roles in movies

Xavier made his debut film appearance with his portrayal of Theo in the popular 2006 drama “2:37”, written and directed by Murali K. Thalluri, and which starred Teresa Palmer, Frank Sweet and Sam Harris. It follows a day in the lives of six students, whose fellow student committed suicide at 2:37; the movie won one of the six awards for which it was nominated.

A couple of Xavier’s following roles were in the 2006 drama “Angela’s Decision”, the 2007 drama “September”, and the 2008 romantic sports drama “Newcastle”. He gained recognition in 2009, with his portrayal of the lead character Brent, in the critically acclaimed horror crime drama “The Loved Ones”, written and directed by Sean Byrne, and which also starred Robin McLeavy and John Brumpton. It follows Lola who has invited Brent to her prom, and is now planning revenge because he’s declined; the film won two of the 11 awards for which it was nominated. Roles in TV series

Xavier has appeared in only three TV series, including the one mentioned above. In 2017, he was cast to star as Simon Heywood in all the six episodes of the mystery crime mini-series “Seven Types of Ambiguity”, which also starred Alex Dimitriades and Andres Demetriades, and follows a chain of events which has been triggered by the taking of a child; the mini-series won seven of the 14 awards for which it was nominated.

His only other TV series role has been his portrayal of Kit Parker in the mystery crime drama “Tell Me Your Secrets”, created by Harriet Warner, and which stars Lily Rabe, Amy Brenneman and Hamish Linklater. Between 2012 and 2015, he was in a relationship with the Australian actress and singer Emily Jane Browning, his longest relationship to date. The two met while shooting together for the movie “Plush”, and there were also rumors circulating the internet claiming that they were planning to marry, but that didn’t happen.

From 2016 to 2018, Xavier was in a relationship with the Australian model Jessica Gomes, and since 2018, he has been in a relationship with the Scottish actress, film writer and producer Marianna Bronislawa Barbara Palka.

Xavier’s physically highly active, and has multiple training sessions at the gym each week, mostly because it’s important for his acting career to stay in shape.
