Klesko grew up in Westminister, where he attended Westminster High School, excelling as a first baseman in the school’s baseball team. In 1988, he made the US Junior Olympic team. The following year he was selected in the fifth round as the 116th overall pick by the Atlanta Braves in the 1989 MLB Draft. After briefly playing in the rookie league at Bradenton, Florida, he was promoted to Single-A Sumter and played in the Southern League at Double-A Greenville before being promoted to Triple-A Richmond.

Making his MLB debut in 1992, Klesko went on to remain with the Braves until 1999. That year, he was traded to the San Diego Padres for the next seven seasons, and 2007 was his last one in baseball, spent playing with the San Francisco Giants. Klesko’s 16 seasons as first baseman and corner outfielder in the MLB has enabled him to achieve a great popularity and to amass a significant net worth. Klesko became the fourth all time Brave leader with his .525 slugging percentage, and fifth team leader in the Braves’ history to capture .886 OPS.

Yet, his best season came in 2001, when he hit .286 with 30 homers, 113 RBIs, 105 runs, 23 stolen bases and .539 slugging percentage, becoming a member of the National League All-Star team. He went on to hit .300 with 29 homers, 95 RBI, 162 hits and 39 doubles the following year. Aside from elevating his success and boosting his popularity, Klesko’s performances, filled with big hits and some towering home runs, established him as a valuable player, significantly contributing to his wealth.

During his one year with the Giants, he hit .260 with six homers and 44 RBIs in 362 at-bats. Following his departure from the team, Klesko became a free agent.

He retired from professional baseball in 2008, however, he remained involved in the baseball world, being included in the Padres Community Relations Department. Then in 2013 he was hired as a pre-game and post-game analyst for the Atlanta Braves on Fox Sports South, which has served as another source of Klesko’s fortune.

Speaking about his private life, Klesko has been married to Kelly Klesko since 2007 and the couple has a son. They have earned additional money by investing in real estate.

The former player has been involved in philanthropy too, supporting a number of charity events in San Diego through his involvement in the Padres Community Relations Department, for which he has been honored the Chairman’s Award.
