Patrick started his career in hockey at the young age of 14, playing for the USA Bobcats. He earned the title of Most Valuable Player and then moved to Michigan to play in the Midwest Elite Hockey League under the Honeybaked AAA Hockey Club. He was drafted by the London Knights in the 2004 Ontario Hockey League Draft, but opted to play in the United States U-18 National Team Development Program for the 2005-2006 season. He went back to the Knights the following season and led the team to a Western Conference Final against the Plymouth Whalers, losing 4-1 in the best of 7 series. Kane earned the Emms Family Award for the OHL Rookie of the Year.

In 2007, Patrick joined the NHL Entry Draft, and was considered the top prospect in North America by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau. He became the first overall pick, and was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks. They signed the left-handed right winger to a three year contract and Kane proved his skill with a debut game-winning shot. He eventually became Rookie of the Year, and then in the following season led the Blackhawks to a playoff appearance. The team went on to make it to the Western Conference Finals, but then lost against the Detroit Red Wings.

In 2009, Kane’s contract was extended and he signed a 5-year $31.5 million extension, significantly boosting his net worth. He helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in the same year. He also became a part of the 2011 NHL All-Star Game as alternate captain. Leading the team in scores and assists, he led the team into another finals appearance for the Stanley Cup after defeating the Los Angeles Kings in a tense double overtime game. Chicago then defeated the Boston Bruins, and Patrick was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup MVP.

He missed most of the 2013-2014 season due to an injury, but went on to perform in the post-season, plus extending his contract even further with an annual average salary of $10.5 million. By the 2014-2015 season, Kane was one of the top scorers in the league, but he injured his clavicle in the season which saw him miss 12 weeks. He returned in the post season, leading the Blackhawks to yet another Stanley Cup win. The following season he went on to set the record for the longest point streak of any US-born skater at 26-games. He became the captain for the 2016 NHL All-Star Game.

Aside from his performances in the NFL and the Winter Olympics, not much is known about Patrick Kane’s personal life except that he is single. It’s been documented that Kane was charged with a misdemeanor after punching a cab driver for not having the proper change for his fare. He publicly apologized for his actions and pleaded guilty to non-criminal disorderly conduct charges.
