Ronald “Ron” Dayne is an ex- professional American Football player, born on 14th March 1978, in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA. Dayne grew up as a child of divorced parents, and so was sent to live with relatives in Pine Hill, New Jersey. While attending Overbrook High School, his athletic skills made him a star, so he was pursued by many colleges. He won the New Jersey Meet of Champions in 1995, setting a new meet record in the discus throw. Despite the beliefs of many that he was too big to be a tailback, coach Barry Alvarez promised him that position and persuaded Ron to come and play for the University of Wisconsin where he played for the University’s football team from 1996-1999, and became known as the “Great Dayne” and “The Dayne Train”. In the final game of the 1999 season, Ron broke the college record for rushing yards with a total of 6,397. After four seasons, Ron signed a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos for the 2005 season, which saw him win the CBS Thanksgiving All-Iron Award that year. A year later, he was signed by the Houston Texans, where he excelled once again, after rushing for 429 yards and 5 touchdowns, before he officially retired in November 2007.
