Rico Verhoeven, born on the 10th of April 1989, is a Dutch kickboxer who gained fame as the Glory Heavyweight Champion for five consecutive years. He is currently the number 1 heavyweight in the world according to Combat Press, GLORY, and LiverKick.com. He also became known as an intelligent fighter, and for his wide range of attacks, especially his powerful low kicks and tight defense.

Born in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands, Verhoeven began learning martial arts at the age of five as his father was a black belt in Karate; he started training, accompanying his father at his dojo and learning Kyokushin. At the age of seven, he moved to kickboxing and focused on the sport until he became an adult. He started competing at the age of 16, but was forced to face adult competitors as he was too big for his age category.

In 2012 Verhoeven started his professional career, signing with Glory promotions in October of that year, firstly competing against Sergei Kharitonov and winning via unanimous decision at Glory 4: Tokyo, but lost to his second match against Semmy Schilt.

In 2013 Verhoeven went back to Glory 7: Milan and this time won against Jhonata Diniz. He also went on to defeat Errol Zimmerman at Glory 9: New York, and Gokhan Saki in Glory 11: Chicago. He made waves when he also defeated Peter Aerts at Glory 13: Tokyo., and he was subsequently declared the Glory Heavyweight Champion. His wins helped establish his career and also his net worth.

The following years, Verhoeven continued to win and kept his Glory Heavyweight Championship title. In 2014, he defeated Daniel Ghita at Glory 17: Los Angeles, and the following year kept the championship title once again after defeating Errol Zimmerman and Benjamin Adegbuyi.

Verhoeven became controversial in 2016 when his fight with Badr Hari received a lot of buzz. Hari bragged about defeating him after the first round, but Rico was able to defend his title winning via TKO.

In 2017, after defeating Ismael Lazaar and Antonio Silva, Verhoeven once again was able to keep the title as the Glory Heavyweight Champion, after winning against Jamal Ben Saddik.

Aside from being a kickboxer, Verhoeven also started a career in acting. He has already appeared in “Bluf” in 2014 and “Vechtershart” in 2015. He will once again grace the big screen in 2018 in the film “Kickboxer: Retaliation.”

In terms of his personal life, Verhoeven is married to Jacky Duchenne and together they have three children: Mikayla, Jazlynn, and Vince.
