Michael grew up in The Bronx, in a family of three siblings, describing his childhood as tough. He attended Jamaica High School, and then enrolled at Queens College, graduating with a bachelors degree in biology in 1963. He subsequently acquired his PhD in nutritional ethnomedicine from the University of California in Berkeley in 1978, and Michael also holds a Master of Science degree in botany, and Master of Arts in anthropology, acquired from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Savage`s career on the radio finally began in 1994 on radio KGO in San Francisco, after becoming a social worker among other jobs. He was subsequently given his own show on KSFO radio, but before that had struggled to gain attention while sending his demo recordings to 250 radio stations. While working on KSFO, Michael became one of the top talk show hosts, and his program reached No.1 in the Arbitron ratings. In the following years, Michael`s popularity and net worth grew along with his success. His career peak was in 2009, when his show had 8-10 million listeners on 400 syndicated radio stations throughout the USA.

Michael also had a short-lived TV show on NBC in 2003, but his language in response to call-ins was too extreme and graphic for the network’s producers. Of course controversy brings its own fame, and Michael Savage has constantly been in the headlines for espousing his views, sometimes with what has been described as coarse language.

During his career in the media, Michael also became known for his involvement in politics, during which he has published several books, including “Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions”, “The Political Zoo” and “The Enemy Within: Saving America from the Liberal Assault on Our Churches, Schools, and Military” among others.

Other than his broadcasting success, Michael has also made a number of controversial remarks on topics such as autism, homosexuality and AIDS, the Roman Catholic Church and Council on American Islamic Relations among others, confirming his conservative tendencies, and supporting the Republican party, including Donald Trump.

In 2007, Michael received the Freedom Of Speech Award, given by Talkers Magazine, uniquely appearing with a pre-recorded speech at his acceptance ceremony.

Regarding his personal life, Michael has been married to Janet Weiner since 1967, with whom he has a daughter, and a son Russell Weiner, who is the founder of the Rockstar Energy Drink. He was previously married to Carol Ely from 1964 to ’67.

Michael Savage lives in Larkspur, California with his family, however he also has residences in Tiburon, California, and in San Francisco.
