Mark Davis born on 1954 is best known as the owner of the National Football League(NFL) team, the Oakland Raiders. So how much is Davis’ net worth? As of early 2016 it is reported to be $500 million, consisting mostly of his shares in the team.

The only son of Al Davis and Carol Davis, Davis grew up with the Raiders, as it was formerly managed and owned by his father for almost forty years before his death in 2011. Right after graduating from California State University, Chico, he immediately worked alongside his father in the team.

Being the son of the principal owner and general manager, Davis didn’t have a defined position in the company: he never worked the normal 9-to-5 job in the office, but he was involved in different areas to improve the team’s image. He worked in the retail end of the company to help the team’s look and also tried his hand working in the equipment room. He even invented muff-style hand warmers, but apparently that was a failure. Most of his wealth was supported by the allowance his father provided for him while working for the team.

In October of 2011, Davis’ father, Al Davis, died at the age of 82 from heart problems. He was next in line to take over the team, but the fans had many reservations because the shoes that he needed to fill were big ones. Al had not only owned and managed the team, he had also worked and served it since 1972, playing different roles and being one of the first owners in NFL to induce diversity into the team. The supporters knew very little of Mark Davis, for he wasn’t very visible – certainly not in the limelight – before his father’s death.

When Davis took over the team, not being very hands-on publicly with the team, Raiders fans and Oakland natives still quickly came to support him for his dedication and obvious love for the team. Unlike his father who was 100% hands on with the team, Davis chose to focus on the business side of it, while still maintaining 47% of the shares in the club, which comprises most of his net worth.

Today, Davis is still actively managing the Raiders. Though the team faces issues and criticism from the fans because of his plans of moving the team away from Oakland in search of a different stadium to play in, as the home stadium is over 50 years old, Davis still does his best in making the team and the supporters happy – his preference is to remain in Oakland if possible, but moving could apparently increase the club’s value by 150%, a significant increase which would move it up from 31st in NFL franchise valuations.

In terms of his personal life, Davis is a bachelor who lives a simple life. Despite owning a National Football League team, and boasting a half a billion dollars of net worth, Davis chooses to live a humble life, driving a simple white minivan, owning an outdated Nokia cellphone, dining at Hooters and maintaining his simple but popular bowl shape of a haircut.
