Lester was educated at Cordova High School in California, where his interested in reporting began, narrating announcements and also working at a radio station. In 1977 he went to California State University in Sacramento, majoring in government studies but not actually graduating, but perhaps spending too much time during his study working as a disc jockey in a country and western radio station. After that he began working for CBS, firstly in New York for a year as a reporter, but was eventually hired by KNXT in Los Angeles which helped him add to his portfolio, and net worth, after which Lester returned to New York and worked at WCBN TV.

In 1986, Lester was hired by WBBM in Chicago where he worked for 14 years as a news reporter, covering news from different chaotic places like Haiti, Iraq, El Salvador and many more hot spots. In 2000, he joined the NBC family, in 2005 moving to being a cover for NBC Nightly News after the sudden demise of its previous co-anchor; since 2007, Lester Holt has been working as the NBC Nightly News anchor. This became one of his popular works which made Holt a household name in America. Apart from that, he has also hosted different shows like “9-11 Conspiracy Theories”, “Dateline”, and coverage of the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008.

Along with being a famous journalist, he has also shown prominence in television shows. Along with being the narrator on “Crystal Skulls”, he has made multiple sitcom appearances, coupled with numerous film and TV appearances such as in “Primal Fear”, “Red White and Blue”, “The Fugitive”, “Fate”, “Cleveland” and many others, which have also helped him to amass his current net worth.

Regarding his personal life, Holt was married to Carol Hagen in 1982 and the couple has two sons, Stefan and Cameron, the former being a morning news anchor at WMAQ-TV NBC5 Chicago. Holt is also a religious person and attends Manhattan Church regularly. Moreover, he is also a skilled musician who enjoys playing bass guitar in his leisure time. For now, Lester Holt lives in Manhattan, perfectly balancing his celebrated life with a high salary and popularity and presumably enjoying the life his wealth should now sustain.
