A native of Chicago, Kiwane went to Westinghouse High School, where he started playing basketball. Upon matriculation, he enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where he continued to play basketball, for the university’s team called Illinois Fighting Illini from 1994 until 1997, under head coach Lou Henson, who coached the team for 20 years, before departing in 1997. During his college career, Kiwane was one of the better players on the team, and in early draft predictions, he was considered to be a late first-round pick, or early second-round pick. However, he was left undrafted in the 1997 NBA Draft, so he firstly signed with the Grand Rapids Hoops of the Continental Basketball Association, and subsequently played for them on two more occasions, in 1999, and 2000. After his first stint with the Hoops ended, he signed with the Denver Nuggets, and played in 28 games of the 1997-1998 season, averaging 2.4 points, 1.0 assists per game with eight minutes on the court. After the Nuggets, Kiwane went overseas, signing with the German side Alba Berlin, where he played one season, 1998-1999. He then returned to the Grand Rapids Hoops, before joining the Orlando Magic for 1999-2000 season, but played only three games, without being a major contributor on the court.

Once again he wore the jersey of Grand Rapids Hoops, and then joined the Venezuelan side Trotamundos de Carabobo, but didn’t stay very long, as the same season he left for the Turkish club Beşiktaş. He switched between many teams until finding his place at Pallacanestro Reggiana of the Italian Serie A, joining the team when it was in Serie A2 and staying in the club to see its promotion to Serie A for the 2004-2005 season. After that, he played for several other Italian teams, including Fortitudo Bologna 2005-2006, Olimpia Milano 2006-2007, Sutor Basket Montegranaro, and Reyer Venezia Mestre in 2009-2010, after which he retired. His net worth certainly increased from contracts he had signed over the years with the clubs for which he played.

Due to his long stay in Italy, he said about the country that it is “his home away from home”.

He had success with the US team too; he was part of the USA national team that won a bronze medal in the World Championships held in Greece in 1998.

After retirement, Kiwane started his coaching career, and most recently assumed the position of the Assistant Coach of Mountain View High School Varsity Boys Basketball team in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Previously, he was assistant coach at Prairie State College, which also contributed to his wealth.

Regarding his personal life, Kiwane has been married to R&B singer Syleena Johnson since 2007, with whom he has two children. Also, Kiwane has a son from one of his previous relationships.
